I don’t want to upset you with the details of my former living situation, so I will keep it brief and general. I lived for the past 5 years where my male owner was violent to the women in the home and when I would try to protect the women, he would turn his violence on me. He would be violent, then drag me…

Quick Facts: Breed: Border Collie Gender: Male, Neutered Age: 1.5 years young Size: 50 pounds Good with… Dogs? Scared of them, sorry not so much! Cats? Nope, sorry! Kids? Too nervous, nope! Hello! My name is River and I am a beautiful boy who is full of energy! ** River is not a CDR dog but please fill out an application and it will be forwarded to his people!*** History I was born in Smyrna, NY to some backyard breeders. My parents were on site. I was only 6 weeks old when I went home with my new family, but they didn’t figure that out until we got home. At that point though, they were not about to bring me back–I was too cute, and the place I came from did not seem like a good place for any dog, let alone a puppy. I have been with the same…

We enjoy exploring new trails and swimming almost every day in the summers! Chance would often go spend weekends at my parent’s lake house with their dog and they would play in the yard and swim/chase after sticks in the water for hours! In recent years I have begun to travel more and more, leaving Chance with family, which has become hard for Chance and my family. Chance loves to love and be loved and wants to be…

Kids? 8+ years old History I was surrendered to a high kill shelter in KY when my family could no longer keep me. So sad in a way, but as it probably wasn’t the most loving home, maybe it was a good thing too! Especially since I avoided being put to sleep (the shelter was SO overcrowded) when Schoolhouse Rescue said they could take me into their rescue program! Whew! That was a close one! I have been living at Schoolhouse Rescue in the Binghamton area since Spring 2015. I LOVE all of the people who I have met and who visit with…

Kids? 12+ years Background I hail from Vestal, NY where I was adopted from the Humane Society into a wonderful family in 2011 when I was 1 year old. I was so grateful to them and when I met my doggy brother, a Lab, we ran and ran, it was so much fun! They had 4 cats and I was great with them all too! I wasn’t OK with strangers and other dogs, though–they made me very nervous. Once I got to know people, I felt comfortable around them. I went to doggie school and worked with a trainer…

Lily

We have very sad news. Our longest resident foster dog, Lily, who came to us in 2011, passed away last Friday from hemangiosarcoma, in the arms of her foster mom and dad, and with foster siblings Sammy and Elfie at her side. Lily was a good, good, good girl. Rescued from a high-kill shelter in KY, she joined the CDR foster care program when she was just 4 months old. She arrived to us with one of her ears half cut-off and with a fractured pelvis. And a fear of children of a certain height, and short, heavyset blonde women. Clearly, she had suffered something traumatic in her first months. But such a spirit she had! A pup who was more filled with love and humor, good nature and joy, you could not have found! Lily was all about fun-fun-fun, and kisses-kisses-kisses. 😊 But that pelvis fracture that she arrived…

Kids: 12+ years History: I’m absolutely the most affectionate, SWEET, and loyal dog you can imagine, once I get to know you. I was found abandoned up in Watkins Glen and the wonderful folks at Farm Sanctuary took care of me before I was transferred to the CDR program. Whatever my past early experience was, it has left me with some fear of strangers but has also given me the ability to love and bond strongly with the people whom I get to know and trust. Personality: About my adorable personality! I am young and therefore very, very playful with other dogs!…
