History
I was owned by some folks who didn’t take good care of me, and since they let me run around free, I kept running away and ending up in the Chenango County ASPCA. Tired of retrieving me from there, they decided to just surrender me to the shelter. It was pretty dangerous that they weren’t keeping me safe, so I’d like to think this was a good decision that paves the way for me to find a much more responsible and loving family! I’m at a rescue right now that has a school as part of it…yes! A dog training program! So I am finally getting some attention and being taught some cool, fun things, and I am loving all of the 1-1 time and getting a chance to work my brain finally! I’m “studying hard” in school, am so happy, and can’t wait to find my forever family!
Personality
I have tons of awesome personality!!! I love people!!! I greet everyone with my little butt just wiggling and waggling away at top speed! I am a very friendly and joyful soul!
I love when people pet me and love on me!! I love all kinds of attention! I enjoy playing with toys and chewing on bones!! I really love my big, cushy bed! I enjoy snuggling and cuddling very much too!
I already know how to sit, and I do it very nicely!! I just started to learn what “down” means, and also what a leash is! And guess what? I don’t mind the leash at all! I am learning how to walk politely on a leash (I have just learned that this means “No pulling please!”) which is a little bit challenging after not having been trained on a leash ever before, but I’m starting to get the hang of it for sure. I actually really enjoy working with people and learning new things…no one ever took the time to teach me anything before, and I am very grateful that folks are doing so now. Makes me feel like I’m a little tiny bit important, and that’s a really nice feeling.
So, I am happy and chill most of the time, but there are some things that stress me out. I do not like a loud, overly active environment. Instead, I really love a reasonably calm, mellow, chill atmosphere. I also love being around people so much, so do not like to be left alone for long periods of time without human interaction.
I hope you are getting the idea that I am a super sweetie, ‘cause I am! But there is one thing I do that is not ideal. I cannot be trusted alone when I am outdoors, even if I am on a tie-out or in a securely fenced yard. Seriously. Really and truly, that’s not safe for me. If I’m on a tie out or on a cable trolley, even wearing a snug harness, I wiggle and wiggle until I wriggle myself free and then take off at a million miles an hour. If I’m in a fenced yard, I will find the one tiny weak spot that no one even knew was there, or the one place where I can flatten myself and squeeze my way out, and I’m gone, gone, gone. And I’m fast. They keep telling me that I could be hurt badly or killed in the road, and though I don’t want to get hurt, and I appreciate the concern, I can’t stop myself. So, what this means is that I am going to need a smart owner who will keep me on leash for walks and for playing at all times–even if I’m in a fenced yard. Tie outs should never be used with me, and I’m sure this goes without saying, but being off leash is not an option!!
Cohabitation
I love people, and I love meeting new people! I have lived beautifully with kids of many ages. I have lived very nicely with two big dogs in the past, but I don’t like hyper, excitable dogs who want to play or get in my business. A calm, respectful dog who isn’t all over me, and won’t be bugging me to play should be fine!! I’m fine with nice, friendly cats, or ones who leave me alone. I don’t want to live with cats who will taunt or be mean to me!
Medical
I am a healthy guy all the way around! My skin was a bit dry and itchy when I arrived to the rescue, and that is because I wasn’t eating a very healthy diet in my former home. I would really prefer a high quality, grain free diet like the one I am eating now! It’s delicious, and my skin is getting softer and better!
Summary
I am an all-around awesome guy, who is soooooo looking forward to finding a new person or family with whom to spend the rest of my life! I hope for someone who is happy to keep me on leash at all times, and who is around a lot and wants a wonderful, loyal, adorable, sweet, and fun companion to spend lots of their time with.
