Background:
I was surrendered with my ‘brother’ to a very poor, overcrowded shelter in KY when my family was no longer able to care for me. The shelter workers immediately could see I was an amazing dog companion, so they contacted dog rescuers to get me out of there and away to a forever family.. and here I am, with Cayuga Dog Rescue!
Personality:
I am a calm, sweet, gentle dog! I’ve only been with Cayuga Dog Rescue for a few days, but so far everyone says they love me so much. Which is great, because I love them! More info coming in a week or so, but here’s what they’ve learned about me so far…
–I am pretty darn smart for my breed!! When I want to answer the call of nature, I will paw gently at the door and *look* at you expectantly — someone clearly took the same to work on my house manners! I have had NO accidents in the house, which is amazing!
–Also, at least so far, I am the farthest thing from a little yappy dog. Knock on wood, but our volunteers haven’t heard a peep out of me yet! It’s been a few days, so maybe when I get more confident I’ll decide I like to talk, but right now, I’m very quiet!
–I like affection! While my foster brothers were busy wrestling, I snuck up into my foster dad’s lap for a quick siesta. So far I’m not a kissy-kissy type of dog, but I do like sharing my quiet presence with my people!”
Cohabitation:
I spent my first few days here with 2 people, 2 other dogs and 2 cats! I am very respectful when it comes to both people and other animals. Even when dogs are barking right in my face, I am calm and will just walk away from them. It doesn’t phase me, and I know not to make a big deal of it. When I met one of our foster parents’ cats, the kitty bopped me on the head.. and I was totally okay with that! Not scared, not upset, just accepted the kitty for who she is. I now have moved to my longer-term foster home, where there are 2 nice woman and 1 little male dog! All is great!
I probably wouldn’t enjoy being in a house with rough and tumble dogs (it seems to concern me a lot when I see other dogs wrestle), or toddlers (I get nervous about quick movements), but I am great around dogs my size and would likely be okay with older children who didn’t make scary loud noises and who were gentle.
That’s all for now. I’m a pretty photogenic dog, so stay tuned for more photos and more about me soon!
