Hello! My name is Mina, I am from St Croix, and I love, affection, playing, snuggling, and fun!
Mina was living under a vacant house in St. Croix, tending to her litter of pups as best she could. She was discovered when a painter heard the puppies crying and called rescuers with Cruzan Satos Rescue. They coaxed her out by gathering up the puppies and waiting for them to cry for her. They did cry, and Mina came out. She was shy and scared, but incredibly sweet. Even from under that house, she was eating from hands. After making sure that the whole dog family was safely out from under the house, they all went into foster care and Mina was eventually relocated to a fabulous foster home in Ithaca NY where she happily awaits her forever home!
This is a doggie that is full of love!!. She was timid at first, but trusted humans so much that she let the rescuers handle her babies right away. After she adjusted to her new home in Ithaca, she became an amazing part of her foster family. She loves her foster mom and dad, and is always so happy to meet other nice humans! She has tons of love to give and is a huge fan of your attention, love, care, and interest. She loves when you want to hang out with her, take her for walks, give her belly rubs, and sit next to her on the couch. Mina loves snuggling with humans and has taken a liking to sleeping in a big comfy human bed!!
Mina can be picky about other dogs. She LOVES her foster brother dog and foster sister dog. She plays, and plays, and plays with them. When they don’t want to play, she finds something else to do. Mina and her foster brother and sister had a proper introduction, so that will be important wherever she goes. She is very respectful around these dogs while eating. She is food motivated, but not food-obsessed. Because she is so happy with foster sister and brother now, she would really thrive with another dog or two in her forever home, if the chemistry is right. We hope to find that for her.
Mina goes on daily walks and listens well while on the leash! She can tug a little bit on a leash when she is excited- but redirects easily. Her tail wags like crazy, she jumps around and smiles when she’s on her walks, she is so joyful, it is gorgeous to be around! She doesn’t need a ton of exercise however, and in general is pretty chill, happy to be with you and be a valued member of your family.
Mina is not a huge fan of the cold, but who can blame her… she is from the Caribbean! She would so appreciate a nice warm coat for winter walks and a nice warm place to cozy up in your home. Mina would love a fenced-in yard!
Mina is awesome with people! Since she has not been around kids, we can’t say if she is gentle or excitable, calm or nervous with them. For that reason, we’re thinking that kids 10+ might be the safest bet, but if you have gentle, dog-experienced kids younger, we could check it out.
Mina needs proper introductions to new dogs, but we think would be very happy in a home with another dog or two (or as your one and only)!
Mina seems too excited about the outdoor cats she sees–and we worry that her excitement is not in a “hey, I want to be your friend” sort of way. She should not be in a home with cats, sorry.
- Mena loves to play with her foster brother and sister doggies!
- Mena loves to snuggle with her foster mom!
- Mena loves a good leashed walk in town or hiking in the woods!
- Mena likes to sit in the sun and relax- she is an Island doggie after all!
- Mena likes to go on car rides!
- Mena loves meeting all of her mom’s new friends, and even new people on the street!
Mina never complains about a thing but she has 2 medical issues. 1) she tested “light heartworm positive” and is on monthly heartworm prevention to treat that. They think that is the extent of the treatment that she will need. It is one pill each month- so not a huge commitment. 2) there is some old injury that leaves her limping after too much activity, and achy when she gets up after having been laying down. She is having an x-ray on May 24th, so we will update soon.
After delivering and rearing 2 litters of puppies on the streets, Mina needs a warm, loving, joyful place to call home. She needs someone to love her, the way that she loved her babies, other dogs, and humans alike. Mina has been such a very easy, wonderful dog to foster! She is house trained, is well behaved, doesn’t chew on things, is pretty mellow- but also so fun and playful, loves to snuggle and love on humans, doesn’t bark, and she is so, SO dang cute with those big ears! She is wonderful!
