History

We are local dogs who lived with a human mom and dad and 2 other dogs for most of our life. Both our human mom and dad got terminal illnesses, one passed away and the other had to go to the hospital and will not be coming out. All 4 of us needed to find new homes, and I’m happy to say that 2 went to a wonderful couple (parents of a CDR volunteer!) and we 2 got to join the foster program at CDR and they tell us that we will find our own person or people sometime soon. We can’t wait!

Personality

We are awesome little doggies! We’ve got big personalities and lots of love to give to our people! We love sitting next to you on the couch, sitting on your lap, following you around the house, watching TV with you, and going on fun leashed walks or ambles around a fenced yard. We had a fenced yard at our former home and we kind of miss that now (no fenced yard at our foster home) but we’re content with leashed walks for now and hope that maybe a fenced yard could be in our future. Not required, but would be great.

We are a terrific blend of spunky, cuddly, sweet, curious and laid back!

Becky says, “I am the more nervous of the two of us, in new situations and with new people, but my foster mom is helping me meet new people and have new experiences and I’m getting much braver! I love treats, taking naps (with you or near you!), going for leashed walks, and sitting on a chair looking out the window. I confess that I think it’s my job to bark at passers by and at new guests to the house, so apartment living is not a good fit for me (it would bother the neighbors). I can settle down reasonably well though, and this seems to be getting better with time. I think there weren’t many guests to our former home, so I didn’t get much practice! I don’t like thunder or loud noises and when those happen, I will tremble, but I find cuddles very reassuring, that helps a lot. My little puppy eyes get me what I want most of the time, haha!”

Shaggy says, “Shaggy: I’m braver than Becky, but I’ll sometimes still follow you around like a little shadow. I mostly want to see if you have good snacks or if I can convince you to come snuggle me! I love dozing on the couch right next to you with my belly in the air so you’ll rub it, and I assure you that it’s a WAY CUTE belly, so hopefully you will not be able to resist. I’ve got sweet eyes, but it’s my goofy underbite that really makes me utterly irresistible! Like Becky, I dig leashed walks, hanging out with you, looking out windows, and exploring. I am the more curious and bold one, but I am no less affectionate!”

We both love to sleep in the big bed if invited, but we will curl up in our own beds next to yours happily enough if you prefer. We miss our fenced yard, but do well on leashes and love walks to see and sniff out what’s new. Our foster mom says we do NOT come when called, so leashes are a must. We get along great with the other dogs in the house, and we would be very happy being your only 2 dogs or being 2 of a larger pack. For all our bark, there’s no bite. We’re not even aggressive when our foster sister tries to nose her way into our bowls.

Cohabitation

We love people once we’ve had a chance to get to know them! We will be nervous with your guests until we get to know them, but with a little patience, we will come to love them too!

We haven’t been observed around kids, but since we’re little and can be nervous around big sounds and fast movements, little kids would not be a good fit. If you have kids 10+, we could meet and see what we all thought!

We have not been tested around cats, so if you have cats, we will need to check that out.

Medical

Our foster mom took us in for a checkup when we first arrived and the vet said we’re in great health—woohoo! Even our teeth look good for dogs our age, so we’re extra happy about that. We both have a few lumps and bumps that come with being middle age, but the vet says they’re nothing to worry about.

Summary

We’re a great pair who bond very quickly with new humans. We have a lot of love to give and can’t wait to find our forever home!

If you are interested in adopting us, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca, Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can’t do home visits where we don’t have local volunteers.
