Bessy Lou – Sweetest girl ever! – Super friendly and loving, good with other dogs and cats.
Bessy arrived unable to put weight on one of her back legs so we immediately took her to our wonderful local vets who x-rayed leg and chest and found a) tumors (almost certainly cancerous) surrounding her kneecap but b) no visible spread to the chest, so the cancer *might be* confined to the knee (we hope, we hope). All of Bessy’s bloodwork looked terrific, and her physical exam also shows her to be in very good shape! We have her scheduled for an amputation surgery consult on March 24th! We expect her to get the green light from the surgeon for amputation which hopefully will happen soon after.
Everyone thinks Bessy has a fantastic chance of coming through the surgery very well and making a speedy recovery. The surgeon suggests that amputation recoveries aren’t too rough, and that she will hopefully be feeling pretty darned great within a week post-op!
Bessy will be ready for her new home by early or mid-April when she is recovered and we are happily taking applications for her now. We are also very happily taking donations for her surgery, which will likely be in the $2,500-$3,500 range.
