Hello! My name is Daylight, (formerly known as Eve) and I am the sweetest, cuddliest, most playful dog around!
***Daylight (Eve) is not a CDR dog and has not been evaluated by CDR. This is a courtesy posting for Rainbow of Hope Animal Rescue (contact info: 607-562-8085 sford@stny.rr.com) who will make all decisions about her adoptive placement. Please contact by above phone or email to apply to adopt.***
History
My 2nd owner surrendered me to Rainbow of Hope Animal Rescue (in Elmira/Corning region). My first owner had to move in to help care for elderly relatives, and since he was not permitted to bring me or any dog with him, he got his good friend to take over my care. Though the friend’s landlord had said it was fine for her to have me in her place, he changed his mind after a few days and said “no dogs” was the new policy. Very sad for both of us! With no other friends or family able to adopt me, she called Rainbow of Hope who found me a great home with people who loved me very much and renamed me Daylight because I light up every room I walk into like the mid-day sun! They had another dog, and in the beginning we really liked each other, but after a while I really wasn’t comfortable sharing my people and my toys with a doggie brother, so now I’m looking for a home where I can have my people all to myself! For now, I’m staying at a wonderful kennel back with Rainbow of Hope while they look for a new home for me.
PLEASE CONTACT RAINBOW OF HOPE ANIMAL RESCUE DIRECTLY TO INQUIRE ABOUT ADOPTION!! Contact person is Susan Ford at sford@stny.rr.com.
Personality
I LOVE PEOPLE!!!!! I am very, very friendly, no matter your age! I light up when I see a new person! I get so excited, I want them to love me and play with me right away! When I am allowed to meet them (we need to be careful with the Covid virus you know!), I jump up in excitement, get all wiggly-wiggly, and like to lick their hands when they are petting me!! I give their hands kisses! I know most people are good. I am just so very much waiting for one of those good people to say “you are my forever friend!” When I met my original foster family at the kennel, I just ran back and forth in the doggie hallway with my toy, showing them how much I will play with them!
I have a lot of happy energy and I love to do zoomies after I get back from my walks! I am so appreciative and enthusiastic!! I’m also a little bit silly! For instance, I pulled all of my toys out of my toy bin and bring each one of them to my person after my trips outside! My prior families say it’s incredibly adorable! I love to lie on my back, hold my stuffed toy between my front paws, and gnaw on it while showing it off to my people! I know what my toys are and I love love love to play with them! My favorite now is my frisbie…its so chewed it flies a little wobbly, but I still love to chase it and bring it back! And…I am smart! I am very good about knowing the difference between my toys (ok to chew!) and your things (not ok to chew!) and I am very respectful and keep to my own toys. And though I know which toys are mine, I don’t mind if you need to take a toy away from me. No problem! But it’s especially good if you want to take it from me so that you can then toss it back and play with me! Fun!
I have my playful energy spurts, but once the zoomies are done, I will quickly settle down. In the evenings, I am actually a bit of a couch potato! I love when it’s evening TV time with my people! I love to put my head (or my body if you let me) on your lap while we sit next to each other on the couch. C’mon humans, stop working and doing your house chores and come relax on the couch with me! I get so relaxed on the couch with you that before you know it, you might hear me snoring! Hahaha! I also love to cuddle in bed with you! At bedtime, I love to curl up in a tight little ball and either lay right up against you or rest my head on you. I so very much hope my forever family lets me sleep in bed with them!
I love meeting any new person and I will take treats very gently from their hand! I know some basic commands, like sit and come but I look forward to learning some new things and understanding what is expected of me! I am very eager to please and learn!
I am very curious on my walks! So many interesting sights and smells, it is very distracting! I walk best with a harness.
I am a bit uncertain about what I am supposed to do, and how I am supposed to act, when I meet other dogs on my walks. Am I supposed to be friendly? Protect you from them? Will they be nice to me, or mean? I don’t know! It would be good if you had a fenced in yard so I could get lots of fun exercise (Frisbie catching! Ball chasing!) without the stress of meeting other dogs out on walks. I hope hope hope that over time you will help me feel more relaxed with dogs on my walks with positive reinforcement techniques! I can’t live with another dog though, it’s just too stressful for me. I would love for all of my toys and my people to be all for me! 😊
Because I love people so much but have been bounced around to a number of different homes in my short life, I understandably get a bit anxious when I am put into a new home. I think, “How long will this last? Will these people leave me too?” I so deeply want to be able to stay with one person or one family. I will need you to understand that it might take me a bit of time to relax in your home, and to not worry that you are going to leave me. Oh boy, I want that so much! To help with my anxiety, I do best when left in a bedroom when you are going to leave the house. I can also be crated when you leave. I get a bit anxious at first, but if you give me a stuffed Kong and some treats, I calm myself in a short period of time. If you have to go to work, I understand, I’ll be okay in my crate though I would be over the moon if you didn’t have to be gone for long days all the time!
Cohabitation
I LOVE people, all people of any age!!
I love children, but because of my energetic, enthusiastic personality, it is safest for me to be placed in a home that doesn’t have smaller kids. Maybe 12 or older? I would be terribly upset if I accidentally knocked over a little’un with my zoomies!
As mentioned above, I really must be your only dog. I am sure I can fill you with the love of a million other dogs all by myself!
My prey drive is very strong, so I think I would go after kitties, so I should not go to a home with a kitty. It would not be fair to the kitty and probably not to me either!
Favorite Activities
- Playing with my toys!
- Chasing a ball (or better yet my Frisbie)!
- Cuddling! And more cuddling!
- Having my squishy face rubbed!
- Being with people! Greeting people when they come home!
Medical
I am a healthy girl! All up to date on my vaccines, on heartworm preventive and spayed!
Summary
I will bring you so much joy! I will give you so much love! I hope for a family that is active, and who want to throw toys for me in a fenced in yard so I can get all of my energy out and run without having to wait for you to catch up to me! Ha! Ha! But then will want me to snuggle with them on the couch and in bed! Also people who will be understanding in the early weeks or months that I might be worried that they might leave me. If you could just be reassuring and understanding, I would be so grateful.
I would love you to work with me using lots of positive reinforcement. If you yell at me or punish me when I accidentally do something wrong, I will only become more uncertain and fearful, so please do not do that. Rainbow of Hope is willing to assist in funding initial training, isn’t that awesome?!. Because I want so much to please, once I learn with positive reinforcement what is expected of me, I will be the perfect pooch for you!
If you are interested in adopting me, please contact Susan at Rainbow of Hope Animal Rescue (contact info: 607-562-8085 sford@stny.rr.com) and get an application.
