Hi, my name is Bandit, and I am the nicest, sweetest dog ever!

History

I was found abandoned on the street in Kentucky and was brought to a high-kill shelter. Luckily, I managed to hitch a ride on a doggie transport heading north to Cayuga Dog Rescue! Now I live with a foster family who is so kind to me! They feed me good food, take me on leisurely walks every day, and give me lots of belly rubs. I LOVE belly rubs!

Personality

I am super wonderful! 😊 My foster family always talks about how calm and sweet and friendly and lovable and adorable and easygoing I am! It’s so easy to be this way when life is so terrific!

I love attention and affection, it is THE BEST. When I want some, I’ll go over to one of my people and look up at them with my best puppy-dog eyes, which I am told are sweet and soulful and like little pools of love. I might also nudge you gently with my snout, in case you haven’t been won over with my eyes. For the ultimate in cuteness, I sit up on my hind quarters with both front paws up in the air – like a prairie dog! Haha…no one can resist my charms! As soon as they show any interest, I immediately flop down onto the floor and roll onto my back for belly rubs! (PS. I give sweet kisses, too!)

I’m an amazing flopper…I will flop down anywhere you are, in what I am told is silly, charming and hilarious, and then I just chill out right near you. I’m happy to nap anytime, anywhere, as long as I can be near you!

My foster mom discovered that I like to be brushed with a silicone dog brush! It’s quite relaxing and enjoyable, and my foster mom likes it because a lot of hair comes off, which makes me feel cleaner and more beautiful. She also likes it because it means I shed less…win-win!

Most of the time, I’m a very quiet pupper– I hardly make a peep throughout the day. I will bark a little if I see someone out the front door, or if I get startled. I also bark if I hear my foster brother barking at something – haha, I might have no idea what he’s barking at, but I have to join in (we dogs have to have each other’s backs)!

Speaking of noises, I make a very cute excited whining sound when my people come home after being out for a while. I’m so happy when they get home! I rush to greet them, whine excitedly, and ask to be petted, using all of my charm!

Did I mention that I like walks? Yes, I do! I do very much! Every evening, we go for a walk around the big block – and it’s such fun! I love my walks, but want someone who wants to take it mellow and let me sniff and take my good ol’ time during the walks. I sometimes even get a little spring in my step! I guess I’m pretty slow and mellow most of the time, but every now and then I feel so good I just have to trot! My foster family has a big backyard that is really fun to explore during the day. So much to smell and investigate! Sometimes I trot a little back there, too – usually after I poop, haha!
Oh – by the way, I do know one command: sit! And if you call my name, I’ll pay attention to you. I won’t always come when you ask me to, but if you walk over to me to get my attention so I can come, I just flop down for a belly rub. Ha!

The five words that best describe me best are:

  • Calm
  • Sweet
  • Friendly
  • Affection-loving
  • Low maintenance

Cohabitation

I like every single person that I have met!

I’ve already spent some time with young children – ages 5 and 7 – and I thought they were great! They had learned from their parents how to be calm around dogs, so they did not overwhelm me at all. The five-year-old lay down on the floor, and I lay my head right on his back! Everyone said, “Aawww!”

I really like nice other dogs too! There is a nice little male poodle in my foster home – an oldster like me – and we get along just fine. Mostly we just ignore each other, but we do it in a very respectful, friendly way. My foster mom thinks I might enjoy living with a dog who wanted to interact with me a bit more…when I see other dogs when we are out on our daily walk, I do get very waggy/interested! I would be happy to share my home with another dog or two, but would also be fine as an only pupper if I got loads of your attention!

I’m not living with cats here, but I stayed in a home for a few weeks down south while I waited for my doggy transport, and that home had cats in it and I was just fine with them!

Medical

  • I’m in generally very good health, am up to date on vaccines, and am on heartworm preventive and flea/tick preventive!
  • I have a big dentistry appointment scheduled for July 21st, because my previous people did not do a good job keeping my teeth in good shape. I can’t wait to get this done and then have my mouth feel better and happier! Whoo-hoo!
  • During my dental procedure, they are going to remove a nodule on one of my paws and send it in for biopsy. We want to make sure it’s just a benign nodule and not a cancerous tumor. We will update that here when we get results, but we’re not worried!

Summary

I’m a terrific pooch! Everyone loves me, I love everyone, and I am looking forward to finding that special person or family who will be my wonderful forever people!
