History

I was owned by someone way down in KY who was quite unwell and couldn’t take care of me. I developed a really severe skin allergy and had chronic otitis in both ears (painful!) which went untreated for a very long time. My ears got all swollen and have stayed that way to some degree. I suffered a lot for quite a long time and was very sad. Then my owner finally decided she could no longer take care of me, so surrendered me to a high-kill shelter, suggesting that they euthanize me. She thought I didn’t hear this, but of course I did. My heart broke. But! Then good things happened! The shelter thought I was just the nicest girl they had ever met and contacted their KY rescue worker (aka fairy godmother) and that person contacted Cayuga Dog Rescue, and just like that, I was saved!

Cohabitation

I am sharing my foster home with a senior male Pomeranian and we love hanging out together. I’ve spent lots of time with my foster grandmother’s dogs and I get along beautifully with them too.

I love people, and especially appreciate gentle, happy people who like to talk sweetly and softly to me, and give me gentle, loving affection.

I haven’t met kids yet since I’ve been here. I’m sure I would be fine, but since I am old and a bit creaky, the rescue folks think that 10 or older would be best. I would not enjoy being chased by little kids, and would not like little kids falling all over me I don’t imagine!

Personality

I am all things to all people. I am friendly and love being petted and showered with attention. But if you just like to chill out, I’m good with that too. I’m not a licker so I hope that’s okay.

My foster mom gave me a nice cushy dog bed and I sleep there when she’s busy around the house or not at home. I prefer to be in the same room as you so I’ll just lay on the floor where you are. I like to lay on the couch with you (and also when you’re not there). If you help me up on the bed, I’ll sleep there with you or I’m just as content on the floor.

I adore chew toys more than anything, especially edible ones. I’m not aggressive about my toys when you need to take them away or some other dog comes along and wants me to share.

I have a hilarious habit of pushing my food out of my food bowl, onto the floor, and then eating it off of the floor! So leave lots of space around my bowl for some spillage! (I’ll get to it soon)

I am much more active than you would think! I start out in the morning a bit slow and creaky but once I get moving I’m great! I love going for short leashed walks, so much to explore and sniff!

Favorite Activities

  • Exploring new places (very slowly and not very far at first!)
  • Sleeping next to the heater!
  • Eating snacks!
  • Affection and attention!

Medical

I am a very healthy little old lady. I have dry skin so I take a fish oil pill every day to help my skin and coat get stronger and healthier. I have been getting a couple of soothing baths during the week to help improve my skin and coat–I won’t need them forever but for right now it helps keep me healthy. I do have a yucky tooth and should be having that taken out very soon. I am a little creaky, but joint supplements and pain medicine works wonders!
