I was rescued from a high kill shelter in Kentucky and was so fortunate that the nice people at CDR were able to take me in. I’m much happier in my foster home but I’d love to find my forever home – are you the family I’ve been waiting for?
I absolutely love being with my people! I can be petted for hours and hours, or basically, as long as you feel like petting me. Sometimes I will sit back on my hind legs or stand up on my hind legs to ask for petting, which I am told is super duper cute! I don’t climb up in laps, and I don’t give kisses, but I do give smiles!
I follow my foster mom from room to room until I decide it’s nap time, and then I curl up in my fluffy dog bed! I do this “fluffing” maneuver with my dog bed, where I scratch and nose at it again and again until it is “fluffed up just right” and then I plop down with a look of total satisfaction. I love naps! Especially in the sunshine! And extra especially if you are rubbing my belly as I settle in! I actually smile when you do this sometimes!
I’m a low key and quiet girl in the house. I’m not into playing and don’t seem to have any interest in toys or balls, but I do sometimes get into funny little running spells outside, especially when it’s sunny! My foster mom has no idea what gets me going on these, but says they are hilarious to watch. Sometimes I even throw myself down and roll in a somersault on the ground when in such a spell!!!!!
And though I’m super chill most of the time, I do get really excited when you break out the treats and for every mealtime! Also when you come home if you’ve been gone for a while. Outdoor scents are also super exciting and interesting!!
My foster mom says I’m not a typical Beagle because I do NOT bark and howl. Sometimes when I’m outside and I catch the scent of a bunny I might give a little happy howl but that’s about it. I like to have one good walk each day, but other than that, I am content to putter around inside with you. I am the picture of mellow and relaxed!
I am a dream in the car but I want to ride up front—shotgun! Unfortunately, this is not safe for me because of the air bags in most cars these days (same reason young children are not allowed to ride in the front seat!), so you might need to secure me in the back seat so I don’t sneak my way up front next to you!
I am very friendly with all people though I like when people are slow and gentle with me. I warm up quickly, especially if you have treats or give belly rubs!
Because I can get a little nervous if people run quickly at me or pull my tail and things like that, we all think I would be happiest in a home with kids over the age of 9, who can be gentle and respectful of my calm, gentle ways!
I like other dogs very much! I’m friendly and curious and all tail-waggy when I see them outside on our walks. Given my gentle nature, I probably would not enjoy a hyper dog who was all jumpy and in-my-face, but calm and nice dogs would be lovely to visit or with whom to share my adoptive home!
I am totally fine with cats…there are cats in my foster home and I really just ignore them!
- Napping in the grass in the sunshine!
- Belly rubs! Ear massages!
- Car rides!
- Treats! Meals! Treats after meals! Treats for training! Treats for any reason!
- Sniffing and exploring the yard!
I’m a very healthy girl but I do have a condition called chronic dry eye. It affects my left eye only and I need lubricating drops in my eye 3 times a day and an ointment at night. If I don’t get my medicine, my eye can become irritated, painful, and infected and that’s no fun. My foster mom says that I’m so good at letting her put the medicine in my eye that she can do it all by herself without anyone there to assist her. It takes less than a minute to apply the medicine and that’s it! Easy breezy! Otherwise, I am in tip top shape!
I really am the sweetest little girl and am so willing to please. I’m full of love to give and wish with all my heart for someone to give me all that love right back. Please consider adding me to your family!
If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can’t do home visits where we don’t have local volunteers.
