History
I was adopted as a puppy by a nice older lady. She paid a lot of money for me and I have fancy schmancy papers detailing my lineage, which seems kinda silly to me! She was a nice lady, but when she got too elderly and ill to take care of me, she surrendered me to CDR which has been really cool!
I was first fostered by a very nice lady and her family, and there were loads of other dogs and cats in the house—including some really big dogs which was a very new experience for me. We all got along just fine once I got used to them, but now I’m being fostered by one lady and I am the only pet in the house and I find that I kinda like the quieter life!
Personality
I bond very deeply and beautifully to my people, and am a very affectionate, very sweet little guy. I love people and am very, very sweet with them. I love nothing more than snuggling in my foster mom’s lap or cuddling alongside her in a big comfy chair while she reads or we watch TV. I usually follow her from room to room, keeping an eye on her and plopping down wherever she is (though I can go off and entertain myself at times as well). I give adorable little soft kisses and licks, and when I am being extra playful, I mix my kisses to your face with gentle, soft nibbles on your hands! It’s adorable they tell me. And I love sleeping in bed with you, and if you let me, I will dive down inside of the sheets and curl up in a little ball there! The rescue director thinks it’s hilarious that my current foster mom is letting me sleep in bed with her because she has never let any other foster dog in her bed! That kind of tells you how special I am! My foster mom laughed and explained that I wrangled my way into her bed by standing next it making this very adorable (but nonstop) chirping sound until she let me in! Score one for the little smart dog! She says I’m no trouble at all in bed which is awesome because I LOVE sleeping in bed with my person!
Get this–I sing! Check out the video– I really love to sing! I sing along to my special clock which plays a brief song every hour, and I sing if you start singing! My foster mom took me to a birthday party the other day, and I thought everyone was going to die laughing when I sang along with them to the Happy Birthday song!
I love going for leashed walks and I am a very well-mannered walker! I get very excited when it’s time to go for a walk, and really love walking on rural roads. I am pretty scared when cars go by, and nearly dive headfirst into the ditches along the road to get away from the cars. I would not do well living in a city for this reason, but would enjoy country or suburban life quite a lot.
I love cheese! And hot dogs! Unfortunately, I do not seem to like kibble, or almost any canned food that I am offered, but the rescue folks are working on finding me something that I will dig. We’ll see!
I love my plush snuggly dog bed! I love love love love riding in the car! You have to watch me though, because my favorite thing to do is crawl between your back and the seat, and snuggle up there, like a little furry backpack while you drive. So funny, but probably safer for me to be in the backseat!
I know “sit” and like to often sit on my back legs with both front legs up in the air in “beg” position. The rescue lady calls this “prairie dog!” but other people call it “sitting pretty.” My foster mom says I am quite bright, and while I will “come” if we are going to do something fun, I don’t “come” if I don’t want to leave where I currently am!
I’m pretty quiet most of the time. I bark when people arrive (just briefly) and again when they are leaving (just briefly) but other than that, the only noise I make is when I sing (in response to sirens, you singing, or my singing clock) or chirp to ask to be let into the bed.
Cohabitation
I love people! I would be fine with gentle kids who were calm, but probably wouldn’t enjoy living with kids under 10 unless they were very gentle.
I am good with other dogs, but don’t super love living with big dogs, as they make me a bit nervous. I can do it, but it’s not my preference.
I am totally fine with cats!
