History

Crazy story! My friend (another Min Pin) and I landed in a crowded shelter in California. We’re both awesome pooches, but since we were both older dogs, the shelter was going to euthanize us (they were extremely overcrowded). But miracle of miracles, one of the shelter donors happened to love Min Pins and thought we were awesome, and after extensive searching found out that there was a Min Pin fanatic at a shelter in KY, and arranged to fly us out to that shelter where we would have a chance at finding rescue or an adopter!! We were there for a little while (we didn’t like the noisy scary shelter much), and then CDR had an opening for me to come on up on the doggy underground railroad and a shelter in CT was able to take my buddy! I am so happy to report that we are both safe and happy in our rescues, and now very excited to find our new forever homes!!

Personality

I am a super adorable, sweet-tempered little guy. I can be a little bit shy at first–in new situations and with new people–but once I get my bearings and settle in a little bit, I’m a joyful, sweet, hilarious little fella.

I love to be petted, especially around the ears and on my belly. And I love sitting in your lap, or snuggling in next to you on the couch or in your chair. With my blankie–I LOVE blankies!! I love to burrow underneath one until I am completely hidden, which my foster parents say is super hilarious (see video). If you see a blanket lump on the couch though, don’t sit on it…it might be me! My favorite thing of all is to be picked up and held in your arms—it is simply so wonderful!!! I am not a dog who gives kisses, but I am more than happy for you to give them to me!

I love being near my people. I like to follow them from room to room–I’m sort of a cute little love shadow. When my people leave me at home, I don’t seem to mind. I know they will be back so I just chill out in one of my favorite spots-usually under a blankie and wait for them to come back. .

I really, really love, love love going for walks, I don’t care if they are long or short!! I get so excited when my foster parents get my harness out and I know we are going for a walk that I can barely contain myself to let them get it on. I also like walking and trotting and running around in the fenced yard at my foster home! I am actually quite spunky and energetic! I may be 10 but I am do not act old and do not act my age! My foster mom says I am often in motion, jumping on and off the couch, following my foster mom around to see what she is up to. I settle down after a bit for chillin’, hanging out and napping. My foster parents tried to get me to sleep in a crate at night but I was not a big fan of that and barked so they would let me out :) So now I sleep with them, snuggle right in under the blanket and go right to sleep.

I’m am pretty much a typical Min Pin, I can be a quiet little pooch but can also bark for lots of different reasons. I don’t like being left in a crate, but I am good in the house and there is not really a need for me to be crated. I will bark to let you know that I want something, like up on the bed or up in your lap. I also do a great job at keeping the yard and house safe from birds, squirrels and the neighbors! Never fear Doodle is here!!
When I first got here I was scared of the vacuum cleaner and the dishwasher, so my foster mom worked with me to make me feel better about them by pairing their use with treats! It worked!! I am still a bit wary of the vacuum but I no longer bark and the dishwasher does not bother me at all. It just takes me a little time to get used to strange new things, especially things that make noise.
I don’t really play with toys, though once in a while when I am super excited when people come home, I might grab one for a few moments!

Cohabitation

I love people. I prefer easygoing, friendly, happy people!

I haven’t been around kids since coming to CDR, but am such a sweet guy, the rescue isn’t worried. They do think that the hustle-bustle and noises and movements of little kids might not be so fun for me, so they think kids over 8 might be a good fit.

I am great with other dogs. No problems at all. I’m a respectful guy.

I am fine with cats, though don’t seem to understand exactly what they are and how they manage to make themselves disappear sometimes (where did they go?)! I am curious and would like to say hello to them (in a respectful way) but so far the cats I have been around are not really interested in getting to know me. I’ll keep trying!

Favorite Activities

  • Being held in your arms!  Napping on your lap!
  • Snuggling next to you on the couch!
  • Hiding underneath a blankie!
  • Going for walks.
  • Hanging out with you…doing whatever you want!

Medical

My hearing is good, but I have some issues with my eyesight. I can be a little nervous and shy when I am somewhere new and the rescue folks think it could be because I have trouble seeing some things. When I first arrived in my foster home I had to take it a bit slow and get used to the stairs and figure out where everything was located. Once I have checked it all out I get along quite well. I rarely bump into furniture, can go up and down the stairs with only an occasional stumble and may have an occasional miss when I try to get up on the couch but I pick myself up and try again, it really doesn’t seem to bother me. I went for a vet appointment to get my teeth cleaned and checked out. They said my teeth are in very good shape for my age!! I did not have to have any extracted Yay!! While I was there they were also able to take a closer look at my eyes, they said I have a condition called Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, big words for dry eye and it can lead to decreased vision. They hope they have caught it early enough to maintain the vision I have. I am using one kind of medicated ointment and will need this daily for the rest of my life but it really is no big deal! But no matter, dogs do great with vision limitations since we also rely on smell and sound to get around.

Summary

I am a fantastic little guy! I’m easygoing and friendly and cuddly and incredibly sweet. I would do great in a home with other pets or as an only dog if you are around a lot. So excited to find my new person or family!
