Mikey Has Been Adopted!
Hi! My name is Mikey, but they also call me “Mr. Wiggles,” on account of how wiggly-happy I get anytime someone calls my name or talks to me! I am a 1-1/2 year-old, 35 pounds, neutered male, Spaniel/Border Collie mix, and I am extremely smart, and super loving, sweet, and affectionate. My foster parents all agree that I am an extra special terrific boy, really an incredible, amazing dog!
I absolutely love interacting with people. I love being taught things (tricks and commands), going for walks and runs, being petted (belly rubs are the best!), playing tug-of-war, chasing balls or toys, and exploring the world with you!
I am very curious and am interested in everything going on around me. My foster mom says I am stunningly smart and have incredible focus. I graduated from my first obedience class with ease, and am pretty solid (if you have treats!) on Sit, Down, Leave It, Wait, Stay, and back-back-back (which means “move backwards, buddy!”). I love my 5-minute training sessions every day more than any dog she has ever had!! I crack her up because I am so focused and enjoy the training so much, if she takes a break to play with me, I shrug her off and get back into “sit” position with full focus letting her know, “hey, we’re training here! Stop messing around! Back to business please!” I would also be incredible in agility training. I ran right through tunnels and jumped easily over little jumps, no fears at all, the first time I ever encountered them. I would be over the moon if my adopter wanted to take me to agility classes!
I do a lot of very cute things! I gaze lovingly in your eyes while you pet me, I play floor hockey with ice cubes (I totally love ice cubes for playing and for eating!), I toss toys around and then pounce on them, and sometimes roll around on my back on top of my toys with an expression of utter ecstasy.
I am terrific when I meet other dogs out on walks, and enjoy play dates at other people's homes, but would really love to be the only dog in my house. The rescue folks have had me in a foster home with multiple other dogs, and also in a home with just 1 other (very nice!) dog, and everyone agrees that it’s just awfully hard for me to share the humans’ attention in my own home. It would be much more ideal if I got to be an only “kid” in the house. The only possible exception *might* be if there was just 1 small female dog in the house...I seem to be able to relax in my home with small girl dogs in a way that I can't with male or larger dogs.
I am housebroken, crate-trained, and very healthy. I have moderate energy, and enjoy a couple of medium-length daily walks, or one nice long one. I am good on leash, don’t really pull much at all, and am also a good jogging companion. I enjoy 20-30 minute jogs. I can jog longer, but 20-30 minutes is definitely my preferred jogging duration!
I used to be quite anxious in the car (drooling and such), but my foster mom has been counterconditioning me to it, which means she is teaching me a positive association to the car by feeding me treats while we are in it! At this point, I can do 15-minute car rides with ease, but need to keep up the counterconditiong program so that I can do longer and longer rides without anxiety.
My coat is even prettier than it looks in pictures, by the way... my fur has gold and auburn highlights when the light catches it just right. My ideal home is with a very loving, affectionate, and active person, who wants a very smart, young, playful dog. I have a super sweet personality, and hope for a family with the same.
