Gracie Has Been Adopted

Hello, I'm Gracie! I'm a very adorable, very sweet, 1 year-old, 10-pound (full-grown!), spayed, female Rat Terrier! I had a bit of a rough start in life (I came from a backyard breeder in KY), and didn't get much attention, love, or human interaction, but I'm doing great now! The rescue folks are surprised at how well I am doing given how impoverished my life was before coming to CDR.

I am living in a wonderful foster home with two foster moms, their three dogs, and 3 cats. Though I am shy with strangers, I am a total lovebug once I get to know you. Nothing makes me happier than being cuddled all day by one of my foster moms. I love to give kisses and be held, so if you want an affectionate dog, and are willing to give me a week or two to get to know you, I could be the cuddle-bunny you've always dreamed of. And I am the perfect size for a lap!

I am also a very energetic little girl, and can run circles around any dog I meet. My foster moms think I might enjoy agility training because I am bouncy-bouncy and love to run. That said, I also love hanging around in your arms and on your lap, and settle nicely in the house. The 3 other dogs here are older and don't seem to have too much interest in playing with me, so I leave them alone because I can tell that's their preference. It would be fun to meet a dog who wanted to play with me though! I am fine with dogs I don't know, though am shy with them at first, hiding behind my foster moms's legs initially. Once we have a chance to sniff each other and say hello, I am quite friendly. Cats though are a different story...I am far "too friendly" if you know what I mean! I get fixated on them and want to chase them (it's my breed genetics, not my fault!) and really need to be in a home without cats. This is the type of breed characteristic that won't be helped by training, it's too wired into my brain, so a cat-free home is the only way to go.

I walk really well on leash, am fine in a crate (I'll whine for two minutes or so, but then lie down and take a nap), and am housebroken. The vet says I'm a very healthy and vibrant girl!! I know I'm going to make someone very happy. My foster moms can't help but smile when I do my cute little dance when they get home from work. I know all dogs get excited when their people come home, but I take it to a whole new level! I'm just so happy to finally be loved, and can't wait to find my forever home and get to fall in love with (and be loved by!) my forever family!

If you think you might like to adopt me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
