Denali
Hi! My name is Denali, and I am a very sweet and very handsome, loving and friendly, healthy 5 year-old, 95-pound, neutered male German Shepherd. Sadly, my owner died last year and my neighbors were kind enough to take me in to live with them and their great dog. Things have been really wonderful there...I love people, and am very happy and enthusiastic about being with people! I love to snuggle them and lick their faces, but I will sit down and let you pet me instead if you prefer. I really love attention and affection and am good about not jumping up on people despite my enthusiasm. I do bark "enthusiastically" when my people come home and when visitors arrive, but I settle down once everyone is inside and we've had a chance to say hello. I know a couple of good commands...Sit and Stay and Lay Down, and I love going for leashed walks. When my people first get home after work and are putting their things down before we head out for a walk, I am so happy and excited that I race back and forth in the house, sliding on the linoleum, play-bowing and wagging my tail with everything I've got. Yup, I guess you could say I get excited about going out for my walks! I've been terrific with the other dog in the house...we run, play, wrestle and rest together, and at the vet's office where there are lots of unknown dogs, I'm very friendly, and want to approach and play with them.
So, why am I looking for a new home? Well, though I am great with the other dog in the house and with dogs in the vet office, I'm not so welcoming to dogs who come onto our land/"my territory." Unfortunately, our house backs onto a hiking trail and there are LOTS of people who walk by every day with their dogs. I think it is my job to protect the house and make sure these dogs don't invade us, so I bark and bark and bark and bark, and it's very distressing to my people and also to the hikers! It's just too much stress for everyone, so they feel like I need to find a new home that doesn't sit on a hiking trail. Other than this, I'm really a terrific, sweet, wonderful great dog. And given that I'm relaxed and fine at the vet's office in a waiting room filled with dogs, it's really probably just this very particular situation that gives me trouble. My people want you to know that I am very sweet, bright eyed, curious, and wonderful. And that they will miss me dearly, but hope for a fabulous new home for me. Please consider adding me to your family! I am in foster care with my current family so please call Friends of Schuyler Shelter to arrange an appointment to see me at 607-562-8085 or mail sford@stny.rr.com if you are interested in adopting me.
