Paige Has Been Adopted!

HI! My name is Paige, and I am an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and adorable little girl!

Background:

I was a stray in very rural KY. The animal control folks put out a live trap for me, and it worked…I was very hungry, so went into it to get the food that was there and the door shut behind me. It was pretty scary to be trapped like that, but the worst thing was that it was a VERY cold night, and no one came to check on the trap until morning, so I was stuck there freezing all night. Not fun at all, but since it was the first step that led to my being rescued and placed in a fabulous CDR foster home…I’m ok with it!

Personality:

I am 3 years old and weigh in at about 25 pounds, making me the perfect size for a good solid hug! If you don't mind my long legs dangling down, I’m also light enough to pick up and snuggle, and I love that!!!

More than anything, I like to be with people. I want to sit on your lap, walk with you--- I want to just make you happy! I’d LOVE to sleep in the bed at night, but if you tell me to lay in my dog bed on the floor, I’ll do that instead. I would most definitely prefer to at least be close to you-- I am very comforted by people. I’ve learned that they seem to like it when I sit to get my leash on, sit for treats, and not jump on them when they come home! Sometimes, I’m even better at those things than my foster brothers! I’ll bark at the snow plow when it drives by, and you’ll hear me bark in excitement when you’re on your way inside. But overall, I’m not super vocal.

I’d love to spend most of my time by your side! I’m also very fond of soft toys and shoes… I might be a bit of a shoe fanatic! I haven’t yet chewed on any shoes, but if I can't get exercise regularly, I do like to make a big shoe pile! I also get curious about the interesting items on coffee tables like tissue boxes and such—and any slippers or stuffed animals that might be laying around I like to carry around like they’re my little puppies. I might have had my own puppies a while back, and my foster parents think that maybe that’s why I like to take and tend to soft dog toys and kid’s toys shaped like puppies. So far, I understand that not everything I "steal" is for chewing. If I do feel the urge to chew though, I love a good Nylabone or an all-natural rawhide stick!

I LOVE GOING ON WALKS!!! My feet get cold in the winter, like everyone else’s, but I still want to walk and smell and walk and smell and walk and smell! So interesting! I tend to wander where I want to go (the world is filled with such good smells!!!) but my leash manners are getting much better.

I’m fully housebroken and crate trained, though I would much rather not be in a crate all day. After being in that trap outside all night--and even though I will stay in a crate while my people are at work--I’d much rather not be confined. I’ve been known to turn myself into a tight ball and voluntarily sleep in a small dog carrier with the door open, though!

My long, lean legs make it easy for me to counter surf (I love food!), but I’m very quickly learning how to patiently wait my turn and not beg! I am increasingly keen on the idea of “crunchies” (aka kibble) in my wet food. I will even eat plain kibble now, which I decidedly would not when I first came. I will even practice my obedience and tricks for kibble! And I love meat! I will be right by your side when you decide to make a sandwich at the counter.

Cohabitation:

I am pretty shy and nervous in new situations. When I first came to my foster home (after a 2 day transport up from KY), I was a nervous wreck! Just totally out of sorts and scared and unsure of what was going on and who these people and these other dogs were. I was not so afraid of the people, but when the dogs came near, I would growl! By the end of the first week though, we had everything sorted out, and I was feeling much more ease around both dogs, having realized that they were nice and weren’t going to hurt me in any way.

There are 2 kind adults in my foster home, and a friendly 7-year-old girl, and 2 smaller dogs who love their people very much. I love all the humans very, very much, and now really like the other dogs too! We dogs play, and hang out together, and share toys and everything! I am learning about this great game called "tug" that my foster brother taught me, and I even went to doggy daycare and had a fine time there!

As much as I now do love to run and play with toys and other dogs, I love, love, love to cuddle with people! Did you see the video my foster parents took of us on a lazy Sunday morning in bed? That was the best morning I’ve had in a long time.

Medical:

I am super healthy and up to date on everything!

Summary:

I’m a humble girl, and I don’t want to toot my own horn… but my sweetness has made my foster family’s hearts swell. I've heard them say that they think lots of people are looking for a dog just like me. I don’t know about that though…. I just know that I have a lot of love to give, and am loving all this love I’m getting right now. My foster brothers were in my shoes once. And they found their forever homes here with this great family. I am starting to think that my perfect forever home is out there somewhere too! Is it with you?

If you are interested in adopting Paige, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
