Phoebe Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Phoebeand I am the cutest, sweetest, smartest little dog you could ever find!

Background:

I was delivered to my foster family 5 days before Christmas by what I like to call my "Army of Angels". They drove day and night to transport me from a high kill shelter in KY. I was saved! The volunteers and employees at the shelter lined the halls and cried at our departure. Over 25 dogs were saved that day. They said "it was such a blessing" and I agree! This act of rescue was called "Home For The Holidays" and boy was I ever! Warm home, blankets, a foster brother just my size, a Christmas tree, healthy food, and a family that lets me snuggle and gives belly rubs!

Personality:

I don't want to brag but I'm pretty sure I'm one of the sweetest, most dainty, darling, and affectionate pups around! I should tell you about my snuggly ways and my snuggle style, as this is a very important thing for me! In a nutshell…I am a super snuggler! I love being on you, in your lap, snuggled next to you, and cuddled on top of you. I do sleep in bed with my foster family, usually tucked in next to my foster dad. Down comforters and pillows are my weakness! Oh, how I love them! If all of a sudden you can’t find me...THAT'S where I am, snuggled into the comforter, fast asleep! I usually just want to be next to you, on your lap, in your face, giving kisses, and napping, and am very much hoping for an adopter who wants me on the couch and in the bed right next to him or her!

I am a total love muffin with anyone I know. I'm a quiet girl most of the time, but I'll bark out of pure ecstatic joy when you return home from being away for any length of time! I do a bit of what is called “excited urination” which means when that when you come home, not only do I greet you with enthusiasm and love, I also greet you with a little tinkle! My foster parents say that once I build up my confidence this will decrease, and they want to reassure you that since I’m such a tiny little thing, it’s really not a big deal.

I’m a bit timid when I first meet people and do some barking for the first few minutes, but as long as you ignore me and let me decide when to come to you, we will be great friends fast! Within 5-10 minutes, I will have decided that you are awesome, and that now I need your undivided attention, petting, and love! Once we reach that point, feel free to pick me up, I love sitting on laps!

I love to be in the kitchen when there's cooking going on and I'm an excellent eater! Someone in my past clearly let me do a little begging but my foster parents are training me right out of that! I’m so smart! I already have learned how to "sit", "up", "no" and "gotta go potty?" I'm a quick learner and I can’t wait to see what you have to teach me next!

I haven't gone on walks yet with my foster mom, because it’s been so cold! I don't like taking walks in this weather in my bare feet, so I have just been going in and out to potty in the fenced yard, and that’s it! Once it gets warmer, I’m sure I would love to go for some walks, but my exercise need seems on the lower side (while my affection need is on the higher side)!

On the scale of “girliness”, I think I get a high score, at least for the fashion category. I love to wear clothes! I have been given all sorts of adorable and warm coats and sweaters and shirts since coming to my foster home, and I delight in them all. I’m a size Medium if you're shopping for my arrival (wink wink)!!

Favorite Activities:

Cohabitation:

I'm great with people! Christmas was a blast!

I like cats! They are there and so am I, its all good!

I like dogs that are my size or a little larger, but am a little intimidated by larger breeds. And while I am very happy about sharing a foster home with my foster brother "Max" and would be happy to share a forever home with a dog too, I would be equally happy as your one and only. Max and I rarely cuddle together, I’m usually sleeping with a small pile of bones. J I'm pretty sure I've never had any toys because I am just now learning how to play with them. I prefer quiet time and snuggling time over rough housing play, but do have fun with a little chase and Max has taught me the fun game of tug-of-war with a stuffed animal (see video!).

Medical Concerns:

I was originally a little on the thin side when I came "Home For The Holidays" but I went to the vet & they said he's doing great and now I'm at the perfect weight!

I had a UTI & worms when I came but my vet nipped it in the bud with medication. I'm feeling great!

Summary:

I'm looking for an awesome forever home where I will get endless kisses and snuggles, and where I will be adored and played with! If you are patient, kind, and caring and want a lap dog who wants to love you to pieces and drown you with kisses and sweetness please contact Cayuga Dog Rescue.

If you are interested in adopting Phoebe, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
