Hi! My name is Kipper the Shiba Inu and I am a gloriously wonderful young boy!

History:

I was purchased from a pet store as a puppy. While in this home somehow my leg was injured. My leg did not get better and I was returned to the pet store. The pet store returned me to the breeder. There was no indication that I ever went to a vet's once I was purchased, not even to have my leg checked out. The breeder brought me to the vet to have x-rays taken of my left rear leg. The x-rays did not reveal exactly what had happened to my leg. The damage is not repairable. I can use my leg; the muscles and tendons are not as well developed as they should be. I am not in any pain. I have a "skip" when I walk thus my name "Skipper" sometimes also "Kipper". At the vets I met my foster mom who felt that a wonderful guy like me deserved a forever home! So on Friday, February the 13th I had the good luck to go live with her!

Personality:

Like most Shiba Inus, I am a reserved guy, but I am definitely friendly! I will come up next to you and sit down waiting patiently for you to pet me. If I know you, I will put my front feet on you to get your attention. I go to work sometimes with my foster mom and everyone there likes to pick me up and give me cuddles.

I am a smart boy! I have learned to sit and am crate trained. Housebreaking is coming along nicely. I have had a few accidents, but my foster mom will tell you that it is due to her not paying attention when I tell her I need to go out! Leash training is going much slower as the stubborn side of my breed comes out then. I have this soft harness now that I am being subjected to, but I will get used to it. The yummy treats help as I am very food motivated!

I am an energetic little dog! I love to chase Kong toys as well as balls. (I haven't really learned to bring them back though.) I also like to play with Nylabones and make my foster mom chuckle when I carry around one that is one of the big dog's. I almost forgot to tell you that one of the things I really like is playing with two of the dogs that live here. They are both bigger than me, but are so much fun! The cats here are nice too!

I am a hoot when I get excited! I dance around and sing "woo, woo, woo". I also pick up a toy sometimes and keep singing. My foster mom is impressed by how well I can settle when we are all just hanging out!

Medical:

I am all up to date on all my vaccinations. I am on monthly heartworm preventative as well as flea/tick preventative. I am on good quality fish oil capsules as a prophylactic measure for my leg.

Ideal Home:

I am looking for a forever home that has the time and love to meet my needs. I am looking for a home that can accept that even though I have a limp, I can do what any other dog can do. I would like a fenced in yard because I still need work on leash walking and my recall needs work too. I would like to try a beginner's obedience class as well so I could show you how smart I am and I think it would be fun too!

If you are interested in adopting Kipper the Shiba Inu, please fill out an online adoption application and we will forward it to his owner, who will be in touch.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
