Ruby Has Been Adopted!

Hi everybody! My name is Ruby and I am an utterly adorable, silly, playful, fun-loving, and affectionate, 26 pound, 4 month old, female Shepherd/Great Dane mix puppy! I was rescued from an overcrowded shelter in KY, where I was dumped after someone bought me on Craigslist but found that I was “too much like a puppy” to handle. Sheesh! What were they thinking? I am a puppy!!

My foster mom can’t say enough great things about me (yay!). She says I am very sweet-tempered, and that I love to follow everyone around and see what they are doing! I really enjoy being in the center of the action, and I am very playful, taking much delight in chasing tennis balls, throwing toys in the air, and going outside to play! I even like being out in the cold and snow, which--given this crazy Ithaca weather-- is a good thing!

The rescue folks also want to mention my ears. They keep cooing and oohing and aahing about my glorious ears! Apparently they are huge and adorable and for some reason seem to crack up people all the time. I guess that’s good (they’re laughing with me, right?), since I like the sound of laughter very much!

My foster parents, who are just the best, are working with me on all the basics that no one ever took the time to teach me before, such as housetraining (am doing well!) , simple commands, house manners, and walking nicely on a leash. I have lots of great stuff to learn, but because no one wants my little puppy brain to get overwhelmed we are focusing on just a few things at a time so I can learn them well. I am very smart and am learning fast!! I am going to be going to have some training sessions with my foster mom to help me even more. In my foster home I am living with an adult male poodle, who is a very nice boy! I am quite respectful of him, but he is not too thrilled with me because all I want to do is play, play, play. He says “whoa—not so much!”

I am a good eater and am growing fast. We really don’t know what size I will end up but my paws are BIG (like my ears!) so am likely to be large (55-80 pounds?) full grown. I get along with other dogs, and have lots of puppy energy so a home with another playful dog in it would be ideal for me. I would also love a fenced in yard to run around in and/or several good walks a day (or a jog!). I also want to continue learning, so a new person or people who want to continue working on positive training things with me would be fantastic!

If you are interested in adopting Ruby, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
