Petunia Has Been Adopted!

Hey everybody! My name is Petunia and I’m an adorable, incredibly sweet, exceptionally affectionate, 1-2 year old, 55 pound, spayed female Hound mix!

I am such a lover!! I bond quickly to everyone I meet, love to follow you around from room to room, and love kiss and snuggle! I am extremely affectionate and loving, and have a very expressive cute face and heartbreakingly cute puppy eyes! Everyone who meets me says they fall right in love with me—how great is that? And the best thing is that even though I love people so much, and like to be right next to them as much as possible, I don’t have any troublesome separation anxiety! Best of both worlds!

When I first arrived, I was not housebroken at all, but I am pleased to say that I am learning very quickly! I’ve mostly learned that I need to ask to go outside, but I’m not perfect yet. I am able to hold it all night (yay!) and I’m pretty good when you leave me home. I will probably need a little reminder of the routine when I go to new places. I fall asleep fast and sleep all night, and even though my foster brother dogs sleep on their parents bed, my dog bed on the floor suits me just fine! I like to get up with the sun, but if you invite me into bed I might be coaxed into cuddling for a little longer!

Speaking of cuddling…it is a specialty of mine! I am a master cuddler with humans, cats, and other dogs, and as I was fostered in KY on a farm, was also good friends with chickens and horses and roosters! When I’m on a leash I am good at walking right next to you, unless I have to go sniff something interesting. When I’m off leash in the horse pasture I’ll mostly stay right next to you and come when you call me. I like to play with the other dogs in the yard and I’m very respectful and play very nicely. I’ve already figured out that one of my foster brothers doesn’t like to play very much, so I leave him alone.

I’m also a smart girl! My foster mom taught me to sit in about 10 minutes! This potty training thing has come pretty easily and I already know which cat wants to cuddle and which one should be left alone. I figured out how to eat dinner with two other dogs (and one pesky cat) all in the same room. I learned my new name fast, which is great because I love it when people call me over! I would really love to go to an positive type dog training class with my new family and learn more tricks and commands and ways to impress! I’m a good listener and I love to get things right.

The reason I listen so well is because I really love everyone. I like to know where you are. I’ll follow you into the bathroom if you let me. I’ll wait outside the shower too. When my foster parents are cooking, you can be sure I’ll be in the kitchen. Being near them is great. Oh, and petting is great. Really great. So is sniffing. If you’re reading or watching TV, that’s great too. I’ll sleep nearby or cuddle if there’s room (sometimes even if there isn’t). Sometimes I snore a little or make funny noises which my foster parents assure me are both cute and hilarious! I make them smile a lot, which makes my heart feel good.

I generally entertain myself by chewing dog bones and toys, though I occasionally pick up a shoe or find something interesting in the recycling to munch on (oops)! I have been here for 2 weeks and have been great left loose in the house every day except one, when I was actually fairly naughty! We’re not sure why I did that on that day, but everyone is hoping it’s now out of my system.

I’m ready for my forever home. Come and get me!

If you are interested in adopting Petunia, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
