Callie Has Been Adopted!

Hi everyone! My name is Callie and I am an adorably sweet, affectionate, beautiful girl with the most beautiful eyes you have ever seen!

Background:

I grew up with a family in Kentucky and had a canine brother who was a Lab. My family loved us both very much, but they fell on some hard times and had to move to an apartment that did not allow dogs. It broke their hearts to give us up but they had no choice. My brother and I were rescued by a kind rescue lady in Kentucky who works with CDR a lot. She knew that we would make great new additions to someone’s family and got us out of the high kill shelter. My brother and I were separated because it is easier to have someone adopt just one dog. We loved each other but were not a bonded pair that had to be kept together. I know he will find a good home also. I miss him and my former family but I am very happy, sweet and loving and have adjusted quickly and fit in beautifully in my foster home!

Personality:

I am a super sweet, affectionate, smart and loving girl! My tail is always wagging!! I enjoy keeping an eye on what my foster mom is doing and will usually follow her from room to room. When I would like some extra attention I put my paw on her very gently--this of course makes her smile and pet me, talk to me and give me kisses. I got along really well with the home pack (3 other dogs and a cat) from the minute I got here. I have played with them all, inside and outside. I love to run around the big fenced in yard with the male Great Pyr and the younger Corgi. I love to play in the snow! I also love to just sit out there with the male Great Pyr , in the delightfully cold air, watching for deer, wild turkeys or whatever might wander by on the other side of the fence.

For the most part in the house I am calm and laid back—though there have been a few times when I ran like crazy around the house with the other dogs!! Most of the time I am happy to get my energy out running around outside. I love stuffed toys and rope toys. I did unstuff one toy but that may have been because its foot had already been chewed off before I got it. I do not bark very much, and when I do, I’m not usually the initiator. I just kind of follow along with the other dogs and will sometimes bark when they do.

I know a few commands such as sit and down. I also come when I am called, but of course this only works when I am indoors or in a fenced yard. We Pyrs are notorious wanderers, so can’t be off-leash outside of a fenced area. My foster mom says I am very, very smart. I take treats very gently and am a friend to all I meet. My coat is super soft and so silky feeling. My foster mom thinks I would be a great therapy dog, in that I would make people so happy by interacting with me, and I do not lick or jump up or do anything untoward. I am just so happy when someone gives me love and attention.

My foster mom says I have unusually beautiful eyes, nice eyebrows that accent my eyes, and adorably cute freckles! She also says I have a cowlick that starts at the top of my head and goes down my neck. She says I look like Spanky from “The Little Rascals” which apparently is some old black-and-white TV show from her youth! When I get excited or happy about something the cowlick stands up even more, which seems like is that much cuter. My foster mom tells everyone about it and how adorably cute it is.

I am totally housebroken. I do like to get up on the couch and chairs to sleep. I will also sleep in dog beds, if I must. At night time I will lay down next to the bed but in the morning when it is time to get up I will jump up on the bed so I can say good morning and start the day with my tail wagging! I love belly rubs too! If you stop I will thump you with my back legs to keep going!!

I do not like to be in a room with a closed door, so crating is out of the question for me (nor do I need to be crated, since I am housebroken and nondestructive). I do like to pick up shoes and carry them from place to place (I seem to do this a lot when my foster mom is on the phone), but I don’t much chew on them. I have not gotten into any trouble when left out in the house when my foster mom is gone.

I love to go for walks and walk beautifully on leash!! I like to go for rides in the car also. My foster mom says that I am a fabulous girl in every way and someone will be very lucky to adopt me.

Cohabitation:

I am currently living with 3 dogs (2 small, 1 large, 2 female, 1 male) and a cat. I fit in amazingly well from the moment that I arrived. I am respectful if corrected by one of them and we all get along famously. One of them even allows me to share her toys and from what I hear that is a first! I was a bit curious about the cat at first and followed her around but now I pretty much ignore her as I would rather nap or play with the other dogs.

Medical:

I was checked out by the vet in Kentucky and he said I was very healthy and in good shape. A girl does not like to say it but he said I could lose a few pounds…

Otherwise I am in terrific healthy shape!

Summary:

I am a fantastic girl looking for my forever home. I am looking for a loving family who want to make me part of their life and have tons of love and affection to give. A fenced in yard would be best for me. Great Pyrenees are known wanderers and cannot be off leash. They become interested in something and do not hear you calling and cannot always find their way back. I don’t want to lose a family again!!

I would love daily walks and having another dog in the house would be ideal. I hope to meet you soon!!

If you are interested in adopting Callie, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
