Winchester Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Winchester and I am such an exceptionally affectionate and loving boy that the rescue folks keep telling me that I am filled with honey and marshmallows!

Background:

My family could no longer care for me due to financial reasons. I had been in their family for years, but I am a lot of dog to take care of. So they have surrendered me to Cayuga Dog Rescue. I am a little lost without my people, and we are hoping I can find my new forever family soon.

Personality:

I am the biggest softie you will ever meet. I love all people and want to snuggle up next to you, give you kisses, gaze lovingly into your eyes, and cuddle. I love it when you pet me and coo over me and scratch me and tell me how beautiful I am!

I love other dogs! I am in a foster home with another big male, and we are having such a fabulous time together. We pal around and gently wrestle and I love to lick and kiss him all over. He's not quite sure what all my licking is about, but he is being a very good sport about it! And even though I am a big, strong boy, I am very peaceful, even in the face of other dogs being aggressive. There was a mean big dog down the street where I lived before and he would come over and attack me sometimes, and I would never fight back. I would just try to get away and get back inside my house, and would try to keep out of his sight. You can see a wound on my cheek from when he last bit me. :(

I love people and children! I am incredibly loyal to my person. I will bark when I hear strange noises, but I will stop when my foster mom says “no bark!” I know sit, and only need the softest correction if I am doing something I shouldn’t (like sniffing around the kitchen counters). My foster mom has found me to be very treat motivated, and suspects with some patience I will be able to do so much more.

I love going out for walks! On walks, I am very strong out the gate (all these new smells!!!) but we suspect that once I get some practice with my person, and used to the area, I will be very easy to walk.

I do need to be on a very special diet because I have a senitive tummy. I am currently on Purina Pro Plan Select for Sensitive Stomachs, because other (cheaper) foods gave me a lot of intestinal trouble and made me incredibly itchy. My foster mom suspects that any good grain-free food would probably be fine for me (esp novel proteins like fish, venison, duck, or lamb) and we are always happy to talk to you about good nutrition!

I'm looking for a home with very loving, warm, kind people, who will treat me as lovingly as my honey-filled heart deserves, and who want to have lots of fun and adventures together!

If you are interested in adopting Winchester, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
