Hi! My name is Summer and I am an adorable, loving, enthusiastic, and sweet female Corgi mix looking for a wonderful, new forever home!

Background:

I was originally adopted when I was about 6 months old. My “Mom” and I met, on June 24, 2005 at a regional Purina Dog Challenge event in NJ. A local rescue group was there and my mom fell in love with me at first sight. I have always been an apartment/city dog.

This past June, my Mom was in a car accident and hurt her head. My “Aunt & Uncle” took me to live with them until my Mom could take me home, but that’s not going to be able to happen, so I’m now looking for a new home.

My Aunt & Uncle live in the country, and have several other dogs in their home, and as I was the only dog in a city apartment previously, it was a BIG change for me. It took me quite a while to get used to the other dogs in the house-- I try very hard to tolerate them, and though we do have some really good play sessions at times, and I enjoy the dog park quite a lot, truth be told, I really don’t like living with other dogs! I know it might seems funny that while I love playing at the dog park, I don’t want to dog friends at home, but it’s my clear preference, so that’s what everyone is promising to find for me.

Personality:

I am very affectionate and loving! I love to be petted! Anywhere really, but when my auntie cups her hands under my chin and gently rubs her thumbs against my cheeks, I actually purr (so cute!) and I like to give adorable “butterfly kisses” when I want to show how much I love you. I also love lying right at your feet, and once I get to know you, if you invite me, I will cuddle next to you on the couch!

I have a sweet and exuberant personality! And I’m smart! I can run, jump and climb like a puppy (I would be great at agility!), and I “dance” and slide when I get excited! Apparently it’s hilarious, as it always makes my Aunt & Uncle laugh. Another special talent of mine is “bug catcher!” That’s right-- I will chase after moths and other bugs for as long as you let me, I find it very entertaining and apparently it is also quite entertaining to watch. I also love to play with squeaky toys (but don’t like to share them with other dogs)!

I’m told that not only do I have a lot of personality, but I’m also very smart. I know a bunch of commands like: hungry?, pee-pee, poppies, sit, come, and cookie. I’m currently in the process of learning "lay down" and "go to bed,” and I’m sure if they pair the training with just a few more treats, I will get it in no time! I am of course totally housebroken, but as I don’t like to go out in the rain (I don’t like my little footsies getting wet!), you need to cajole me a bit. Having a few treats certainly can be motivating!

I love going for walks, but need a Sensible or Sense-ation harness, because I do like to pull. No one has had the time to work with me on this too much yet, so I look forward to doing that with my new family! You bring treats, I promise to learn!

I’m not an especially noisy dog at all, but I do some specific vocalizations…I purr when I’m super happy, I do play-growls during play, I will warning-growl when the other dogs are getting on my nerves or scaring me, and I bark when I hear a doorbell (even if it’s on TV) or when someone knocks at the door (I learned this from my current doggy siblings)! I also do bark a bit at thunder—my current guardians say they are going to try a Thundershirt on me for the next storm.

My Aunt and Uncle took me to the vet to be sure I was in good health and I am in great shape and am up to date on all my shots..

Co-Habitation:

I would like to be an only dog please! And no cats either please! And a loving person or people is a must!

Summary:

If you think you would like to share your home with me, please fill out an adoption application and the rescue folks will forward it to my Aunt & Uncle who will make all the decisions about my placement.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
