Hi! My name is Bees, and I am the sweetest, most affectionate girl around!

Background:

I was abandoned up at Farm Sanctuary, and the wonderful folks up there took care of me as long as they could, and then transferred me into the wonderful CDR foster program! I spent a few weeks at the Bed and Biscuit Kennel (aka, doggy heaven) and then got my very own foster home with the 2 nicest people possible and their dog Max, who is now my bestest friend in the world!

Personality:

I am a super affectionate girl! I love to be petted sooo much. Even when I am chewing on my favorite bone, if you start to pet me, I'll just melt into the floor and turn my full attention to enjoying my massage. When you stop, I'll gently nudge your hand with my head and gaze at you with my soft, lovely, trusting eyes and most of the time you will pet me a bit more!

I don't jump on people often but sometimes when I am excited to see someone, I'll gently put my front paws around her/him in a bear hug! I'm told that it's pretty cute and since I've got a slight figure, you really hardly feel my weight on you! Oh, did I mention I have the softest fur in the world? It's been compared to a baby harp seal's fur! This is great for me, as it will encourage you to pet me more! Hooray!

When I first wake up in the morning, I love to have morning playtime with my foster brother, Max, who is a goofy 65 pound black lab mix. We wrestle each other and then continue the fun outdoors! He is my best friend now and we get along great but when we first met, I was scared of him because he is very energetic outdoors and tried to engage me in a game of chase which scared the pants off of me! Now we chase each other all the time!! it's so much fun, and I'm FAST!

I love to go for walks and sniff around. I'm so into sniffing the surroundings that I can pull hard sometimes. A "Sensation harness" helps a lot (you can see it here) but it would be great if someone could work on leash-walking with me. When I see other dogs while I'm on leash I mostly don't even bat an eyelash! On a walk I especially love squirrels so if I see one, I will want to go to it even if it is up on a tree! If I can't get to it (for instance if I am inside a car) I will make these little whiney noises because I soo badly want the squirrel! As long as there aren't too many of these guys around, I am a great jogging companion. I'm an extremely athletic little girl and would love to have my very own person to run with all the time.

I'm extremely food motivated which is perfect for positive training. I am a smart girl and know to sit and wait at the door before being let out. I'm happy inside a crate if you leave me with nice bones or peanut-butter filled Kongs. Because I loove food so much, I sometimes will stretch upwards on the counter to sniff out good eats. My foster parents are working to stop this habit and it's working really great! As soon as I hear one of them call me, I immediately come down and trot over to them, tail wagging.

I'm only about one year old and so still have a lot of puppy in me! I'm mostly great inside the house and generally know what toys are mine and what are human shoes. I had a few accidents indoors in the beginning but that appears to have stopped so we think that it was because I was just nervous at being in a new environment.

Favorite activities

Cohabitation:

I currently live with my two foster parents and their dog, Max. I am good with other dogs as long as I get to know them first. At Bed and Biscuit, where I stayed before I moved into my foster home, I loved to play with all small dogs and calm dogs--the bigger ones scared me a bit.

Medical:

I'm a super healthy girl!

Summary:

Super duper affectionate and cuddly, ridiculously soft-furred 1-year old black lab/border collie mix looking for her forever home in which she can have lots of cuddling time with humans and tons of opportunity to roam the great outdoors on leash with her people! Would be amazing if there was a friendly dog to play with too!

If you are interested in adopting Bees, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
