Fallon Has Been Adopted!

Hi, my name is Fallon! I am a very sweet, soulful, affectionate, and delightfully rascally 18-month old female Great Pyrenees mix!

Background:

I had terrible owners. They bred me, and I had a litter of puppies, but they barely fed me, which is why I was so emaciated. All of my nutrition went to the puppies, and once they weaned, the people dumped me at a high-kill shelter in KY.

The people at the shelter wanted to save me very badly, they said that I was just the sweetest girl, so they contacted a lady in KY who works with Cayuga Dog Rescue and she came and got me right away! She was SO nice! I stayed with her for a while and gained both weight and confidence. You would never know it to meet me now, but when first rescued I was super shy because no one had ever paid any attention to me. Once I had some good care though, they say I “blossomed” into the friendliest, happiest, most playful girl around. Once I gained enough weight to travel I came up to Ithaca on the Doggy Underground Railroad! My great foster mom tells me that I am very special and very important, and this is so lovely it almost makes me cry. I also have awesome doggy playmates, yummy, nutritious food, love, affection, dog beds and a fenced yard to play in!! I can still be a tiny bit shy (sometimes) when I first meet you, but I warm up very quickly!

Personality:

I’m a lovey girl. I so much enjoy your attention and your petting and your talking to me. I love being kissed and gently hugged (once I know you), and having my hair gently brushed. I kind of can’t believe how wonderful it is!

My foster mom says I have very soulful eyes. When I want to communicate with you, I will take my paw and put it on your knee or touch your leg, and make very sweet, loving eye contact. She says all I seem to want is to be petted, kissed or softly talked to and I am oh so very happy for you to do that for as long as you want.

I follow my foster mom around and want to be where ever she is. I don't make a big fuss about it, she says it is adorable how I just show up and quietly wait until she pets me or gives me a kiss.

I am very well behaved in the house and have never had an accident. I can be a little mischievous at times-- I will carry shoes around in my mouth-- but have not chewed on them (yet)! I also seem to like cell phones and Kindles, and luckily have not chewed on them either (thank goodness)! I like to move them around if I can get to them, so probably best to keep your favorite electronics put away where I can’t get them. I also like to carry clothes and socks around, which I am told is quite adorable!

I have very long legs so coffee tables and side tables are at just the right height for me, so if there is something that interests me I may walk away with it. So far if my foster mom catches me, I walk away when requested and leave it alone (until she is not looking lol). I have not jumped up on any furniture, ok well just once when I was running around playing, but that was it! I am very interested in things on the kitchen counter but so far have not jumped up or tried to get anything.

I am quite laid back much of the time, but do have some good puppy energy too! I love playing with other fun-loving dogs, and as my health has improved, so has my boisterous play! Everyone who has met me says it’s a joy to behold. I like to go for walks and walk nicely on leash, and also love trekking around in the fenced yard at my foster home.

I am smart and will learn quickly and would do well going to a positive training class with you, but you will need to keep in mind that Great Pyrenees dogs are independent thinkers, so not always the type of dog who just blindly does whatever you ask. It has to make sense to me! When I first got to my foster home I was very hesitant about going upstairs but I had to do it because everyone else went up there and did not come back! It seems I had never seen a big flight of steps before. Well I had it mastered and was running up and down within a day!

I love food (as you might imagine) and am very grateful to finally be getting nutritious food, and enough so that I’m never hungry. That’s really good, because it was really rough being hungry all the time before.

Cohabitation:

There are 3 dogs and a cat that live in my foster home and I am getting along really well with all of them.

I pretty much ignore the cat and am learning how I need to play and interact with each of the dogs because wow, they have very different personalities!

Special Issues:

I get car sick! The long drive from KY to NY was rough, and I did vomit along the way, though whether that was from nerves or nausea, we don’t know. My foster mom finds that I do not feel as sick if I sit in the front seat with the AC blowing on me. On the two short car trips that I have taken since I arrived, I have not thrown up, but have drooled an awful lot. We are going to try some more short car trips soon to see how I do. There’s a straightforward protocol for helping an anxious dog feel more comfortable in the car, so if that’s what’s going on, we’ll get to work on it very soon.

Medical:

I am a young, healthy girl. I am gaining weight and feeling better every day. We will be scheduling a date for my spay surgery as soon as the vets say I am ready.

Ideal home:

My ideal home will have fun-loving, big-hearted, joyful people! And while I’m wishing…a fenced in yard (5 feet or higher) in which I can run around and play would be terrific, though if you liked to take leashed walks and would take me to the dog park sometimes, that would be ok too. Another dog in the home would be great but not totally necessary as long as I get to go to the dog park, to doggie daycare, or have playdates with your friends’ dogs. If you pet me and give me love, affection, kisses, nutritious yummy food and belly rubs I will be the happiest girl around.

Summary:

I am a beautiful, soulful, loving girl who is so happy to be given a chance at a great life. I hope you find me soon so we can get started on it!

If you are interested in adopting Fallon, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
