Cindy Lou Who Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Cindy Lou Who, and I am an incredibly sweet, affectionate, loving, and well-mannered girl!

Background:

I was found stray and landed in a terrible, dismal, extremely overcrowded and icky rural shelter in Kentucky. I almost got put to sleep, but in the nick of time, a wonderful rescue lady in KY pulled me for Cayuga Dog Rescue, and I got to come up on the wonderful Doggy Underground Railroad transport! That was about 6 months ago, and I have been with a lovely family (3 adults, one kid, and a dog and a cat) ever since.

They love me to bits and would love nothing more than to keep me forever but they aren’t able to stop my door darting and they are terrified that I am going to get hit by a car on one of my “running-about-town adventures” that I take when I bolt out the door. For my own safety, and with tremendous sadness and grief, they gave me back to the dog rescue so CDR could find me a home with a fenced yard and perhaps a house set-up that would make it impossible for me to escape out the door (e.g., like a two-door front entry ).

Personality

I am absolutely lovely. I am friendly and affectionate and curious and sweet. I love to give kisses, and especially like to give you little licks on your ears! I truly love people and affection of all sorts…petting, gentle hugs, nuzzles, etc. I love it if you want to sit next to me and I love your attention. I’m not demanding about it, but it makes me incredibly happy to get it.

I love to learn things and enjoy positive training, and in fact am a graduate of a wonderful positive training class in the region. I prefer gentle and fun-loving warm people and I respond best to a quiet, gentle voice. I have a bright, lively mind.

I love walks and would probably be a great jogging partner. I love to track scents, and will do this adorable pouncing-on-the-snow move when I think I smell something wonderful underneath! Though I’m a pretty good leash walker, when I see critters (squirrels, bunnies, deer), I might bolt after them, so some type of no-pull harness is a good idea for me.

I rarely bark, so would not be a good guard dog at all. I love people so much and trust that if they are coming over, it’s because they want to play and spend happy time with me, so why should I bark at them? That would just be rude!

I still have some puppy in me, in that I enjoy stealing things from tables every now and again for chewing or to get you to play a game of chase with me. So much fun! I also let you know that I need to go potty by either scratching at the door, or by stealing something and running in circles around the house with it! The “stealing-running around” tactic is a funny way to tell you that I really need to go, but it seems to be my way!

I am very curious and interested in the world and love looking out windows in the house. If you have a big window that looks out onto trees and such, I will be very content!

I’m used to sleeping in bed with my person (sometimes at the head, sometimes at the foot), and I like that very much, but I also like a “cave” now and again. Sometimes for napping, I chose to curl up in a crate, or find a cozy spot tucked under a table or ottoman or big chair.

Even though I am part Husky, I don’t have that endless crazy Husky energy…I need daily exercise of course, but as long as I get some good walks outside, I am pretty mellow and easygoing in the house. I’m also great in the car –I’m relaxed and enjoy watching out the window, and am good at the vet!

Favorite Activities

Being near you! Cuddling, giving kisses, enjoying your attention, licking your ears!

Going for lots of great walks and getting to explore and sniff everything!

Playing with other dogs! Chase and wrestle and all that good stuff!

Playing with toys, and most especially toys that have treats in them! I like to work a little bit to get the treat…my current favorites are a pickle and a red bone that holds tiny little marrow bones stuffed in its ends. Yum! I also like Jolly Balls, and am happy to play with anything that another dog wants to share!

Cohabitation

I love other dogs and would be delighted to share my home with another dog. I seem great with both genders and various sizes. I lived with a huge male dog and a cat and did great with both.

Medical Concerns/Special Needs

I’m a super healthy girl! I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and treated and seem perfectly fine now!

Ideal Home

My absolutely ideal home would have lovely, kind, fun people who want to spend plenty of time with me, take me on lots of great walks or jogs, and give me loads of affection and attention. They would also have a fenced yard (not electric) and a way to keep me safe from bolting out the front door. It would be an extra bonus if there was another playful dog in the home, but I would be ok as an only dog as long as I got plenty of attention. I would be happy with a kittie sibling too!

Summary

I’m a terrific young girl, full of love and sweetness and am an incredibly wonderful companion. I very much look forward to finding my forever home where I can be just as loved but also be totally safe from my urges to bolt and explore.

If you are interested in adopting Cindy Lou Who, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
