Molly Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Molly, and I am a sweet, cute, spunky, bouncy and smart, spayed female, very small, Black Lab mix!! I am about 5-7 years old and weigh 37 pounds. My foster mom says I am the perfect dog! I love to snuggle and give kisses!!

Background

My former owners were moving and felt they could not take me with them so they took me to a high kill shelter in KY. I don’t know why they could not take me with them-- I am such an incredibly loving, sweet, good, and well behaved girl! It made me really sad and I cried for them for many days, but there was a very kind person who works with Cayuga Dog Rescue a lot and she heard about me. She knew that CDR was looking for a new dog to rescue and bring to NY and that they would love me! I was able to hitch a ride on the next transport and here I am now, with a second chance at a great new life!!

Personality

My foster mom says I am the perfect dog! That is quite a compliment as she knows a lot of dogs and knows a lot of awfully nice ones! She says I am cute, peppy, spunky, sweet, bouncy, smart , and just loves how I get along with everyone (people, kids, dogs, cats, everyone!).

I am very affectionate! I love to cuddle, and give kisses! I love to be petted and played with and I love sitting next to you, laying my head on you, and snuggling in for the evening!

I am totally housebroken! If I need to go out, I come over to you and nudge your arm, trot over to the door, look back at you to see if you are coming! If you aren't heading over my way to open the door, I trot back over to you, give you another nudge to say “C’mon please! I really have to go!” My foster parents think that it is very sweet and super adorable!

I am great with cats and dogs! I am living with two dogs and a cat in my foster home. I love to play with the dogs outside and run around the fenced in yard. I am good during the day and when my foster family is away, I just hang out on the couch with the other dogs and nap. I don’t do anything destructive in the house at all!

There is also a 2 year old toddler in my foster home. He is very respectful of dogs and we get along great! I do know that he sometimes food drops from his hands, so I keep a close eye on him, hoping to be first on the scene if something hits the floor, but I have never tried to take anything out of his hands—I am way too well-mannered to even think of doing that!

I just love to play, play, play!! I know fetch with the tennis ball and love to play with rope and squeaky toys. I love to run outside with the 2 dogs in my foster home. We have a blast playing and chasing each other. I would love a home with another dog and a fenced in yard so I can play but would also be fine if you took me sometimes for doggy playdates or to the dog park and took me for regular leashed walks.

I totally LOVE to go for rides in the car! As soon as my foster mom puts her shoes on in the morning, I start dancing around, doing circles at the door, and my tail sags and spins so fast I nearly lose my balance and fall over!! I am so excited that I might get to go!! It makes my foster parents laugh every time I do it. And when I am lucky enough to get a ride in the car, I sit just like a princess looking out the window, totally content.

I sleep at night on a bed next to my foster parents. I would love to sleep in the bed with them but the bed is too high for me to be up there safely. So if I can’t sleep in bed with you then I will be fine to be on a dog bed on the floor, right next to you! I very much like to be close during the night, I would have a hard time if someone wanted me to sleep in a room or area all by myself.

Medical Concerns/Special Needs

I am prematurely gray and look older than I am. Three different vets have all agreed that I am 5- 7 years old. Some dogs go gray early just like people do.

I have dry eye and require ointment in my eye so it does not get irritated, red and sore. The vet says I will need this for the rest of my life. I am also a bit stiff when I first get up, so the great folks at CDR have started giving me fish oil and meds for my joints. Once I get up and going, I am just fine and play and run and it does not seem to bother me at all.

Summary

I am fabulous, adorable, funny, sweet and smart. I am looking for a forever home where I am a beloved family member, and get lots of people time and some good dog-dog time too. I also would love to be able to go for walks and I walk nicely on leash. I have so much love to give to a new family and am looking forward to finding a family that I can live with for the rest of my life.

If you are interested in me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
