Henny (formerly Nugget) Has Been Adopted!
Hi everyone! My name is Henny (formerly Nugget), and I am a very playful, loving, curious, sweet, silly, goofy, fun-loving, 2-year-old, 27-pound (so small!), spayed female Terrier/Min Pin mix girl!
I have a really happy-happy-happy, exuberant little personality! I love my toys-- especially balls. I love chasing them, pouncing on them, and rolling around on the floor with them! I also love stuffed animals, but I unstuff them in only a few minutes to it’s best for me to stick with things that can take my powerful chewing like Kongs, tennis balls, Nylabones, and rope toys. I have not chewed on anything I'm not supposed to (like shoes, books or furniture) but if you leave me home alone for way too long of a time all by myself, I might. I have lots of wonderful, happy, playful energy, so I hope you're active and can take me outside for play sessions and for walks, hikes or jogs every day!
I am as loving as I am playful, and will take any opportunity to cuddle under your legs or put my head on your lap. I love giving kisses too (not drooly at all!) so I hope you don't mind! I sleep at night in my own bed (I understand dogs are not allowed on furniture), and every day at 7am I wake up my foster moms - whether they are ready or not - by jumping up on the bed and snuggling between them. I’m so adorable they don’t even get mad!
I listen well, and I obediently follow all the basic commands (Come, Sit, Go Lay Down, Stay, Shake). I even know hand signals. The only time I'm not as good of a listener is when I'm overly excited (like most dogs). I have a hard time not jumping up on people sometimes because I'm so happy and excited to see them and I’ve still got some puppy energy!
I am one of those dogs that attaches really, really strongly to 1 person, and then follows them everywhere when they are around and pines for them when they are not home. I like everyone else in my life and whom i meet quite a lot too, but my super velcro attachment is reserved for "the one." While this super attachment is heart-melting and adorable (have I mentioned I’m adorable?), this indicates that separation anxiety is a bit of an issue for me. I whine and keep vigil at the door when I am alone (or when my favorite mom is doing something utterly devastating like walking to the mailbox at the end of the driveway). I do the same thing in the car. I don't get destructive in any way, but you can tell my heart is breaking, so I will need a little help working on this emotional issue from my adopter(s)!
I absolutely love playing with other dogs. I’m pretty bouncy and wild when I play, but respectful if dogs don’t want to play with me (like the grumpy old dog who lives in my foster home). I play super well as long as there are no toys around; if there are toys, I am not a good player at all because I think all toys are mine, and will snarl and lunge at any dog who wants me to share. Not good, I am told! No dog parks or group doggy daycare for me because those places always have balls and toys around. I also won't share my favorite dog bed, and sometimes don't want to share my favorite foster mom (with the other dog in my foster home). My foster parents are working on this with me. We dogs eat in separate locations, so no issues with food guarding, but that would probably be VERY different if someone tried to feed us in the same room! The good news: my guarding behavior tends to come out only with other dogs, not with humans.
Since sharing does not bring out the best in me, it might make sense for me to be an only dog. A fenced-in yard is ideal, too because I love running! I get awfully excited when I see squirrels and cats so my foster moms think I might be a chaser. I’m not a big barker, but I will bark at cats and strangers. I am reportedly crate trained, but I will always prefer to be with you!
Here are some things that I especially love:
- Belly rubs
- Cuddling
- Playing
- Running
- Kisses
- Treats
- Long walks
- Supervised playdates with other dogs (no toys or dog park)
- Napping in front of the fire
- Getting all the attention all the time!
Here are things that I don't like one bit:
- Being left alone
- Playing tug-o-war with other dogs
- Sharing my toys, food, or bed with other dogs
- If you smoke cigarettes in the house
I’m totally housebroken (yay!), but if you put me in a new environment, I might have a few accidents in the first week as I get adjusted but then I am just fine.
I was initially looking for a new home because my mommy was not able to be at home very much. I was in a crate pretty much from 7 am until midnight many days (with friends coming over to let me out for a pee/poop break a few times) which was really rough on me and on her. In addition, she was having some tough financial issues that were making it impossible for her to take care of me properly. And then she had to move out of town, so I was going to have to go to the local shelter. But since CDR knew what a terrific girl I was, they felt badly and said they would take me into their foster program instead. They promise that they will find me a very loving, fun, wonderful new person or family, and I am excited to see who that will be!
