Joshua Has Been Adopted!

My name is Joshua!I arrived from KY in late April, and my transition into home life has been an incredibly amazing one! I have transformed from a terrified, anxious, incredibly shy boy to an actively involved, social, participating family member! How wonderful is that!!

Background:

I have a very sad story. I’m going to tell it to you, so you know what I’ve been through, but keep in mind that I am very happy now and doing really great! So please don’t be too upset for me, I wouldn’t want you to feel too sad because life is really good now, and I am being taken care of really wonderfully!

My mother was abandoned by her owners when she was pregnant, so my littermates and I were born outside and we all had to fend for ourselves. Some rescue folks eventually came and rescued my mom and a bunch of my littermates, but for some awful reason, they left me and 1 of my sisters behind. We lived on our own—just the 2 of us--for many months. It was very scary and hard. Luckily though, we eventually got rescued too, but were so terrified of people (having really never seen any!) that we would cower, shake, try to hide under cars, and would pee and poop all over ourselves. We spent many months in the home of a really nice rescue lady, where we learned to trust people and gain some confidence! I made the big trip to the Finger Lakes region in April, and my sister headed off to another great rescue, and both of us are over the moon that we will each soon get our very own adoptive forever homes!

Personality:

I am extremely affectionate! My foster mom says I am “a total love-bug” and wants you to know that I enjoy being wherever my foster mom is. I’m a bit cautious with strangers, but if strangers come bearing treats, I warm up pretty darn quickly! I love romping in the yard, and my happy, fun-loving personality is really beginning to show itself!

My foster mom says that I am an ideal combination of playful and calm. And she says that is incredibly rewarding to see me come alive more and more with every week, gaining confidence, and excitement for all the new things in my life. She says that when she sees the sparkle of happiness in my eyes, it just melts her heart like crazy. I am still pretty scared about loud noises and fast movement, so I need someone who will be very patient with me, and help me continue to gain confidence with the big wide world about which I have known so little until very recently. I would probably be stressed living with little kids (they make loud noises and sudden movements!). I’m a quiet boy, and almost never make a peep! This could change as I get even more relaxed, but it’s nearly impossible to imagine that I would ever be a barky dog!

Co-habitation

There are 2 other dogs in my foster home and I am super nice with both of them. I didn’t play much with them for the first few weeks, but am now starting to play with them more and more!

Summary

My foster mom says that I have quickly become the ideal companion! Upon arrival, I was very nervous and kept to myself (I would hide out either in a crate or in a corner), but now I’m very happy being wherever the action is! I love affection and attention and prefer a quiet home environment to a bustling, chaotic one. I can’t wait to meet my loving, wonderful forever person or people!

If you are interested in me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
