Bodhi Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Bodhi, and I am an incredibly kind, affectionate, sweet, and loving 1-2 year old, male, Corgi/Collie mix!

Background

I was picked up as a stray in rural KY, and landed in a super icky, scary, crowded high-kill shelter, and no one ever came looking for me. Luckily, one the great rescue folks down there happened upon me at the shelter, saw what a sweetheart I was, and got me out and into a temporary foster situation until CDR was able to take me into their foster program! I made the long drive up to my fabulous new foster home where I am just elated and so excited about finding my forever home!

Personality

I am a very friendly, loving, young guy, who loves attention, affection, snuggles, belly rubs, and to be near you whenever possible. Some dogs are quite independent and like to go and do their own thing…but not me! I follow my people (especially my foster mom) from room to room, and am happy to keep you company everywhere you go…even to the bathroom!

I give and getting kisses and I like to snuggle next to you! I also like to lick your feet (I hear it tickles!) and I do a bit of herding of your feet, though with a closed mouth…no nipping like some herding dogs do (at least not yet)! My foster mom says I have incredibly expressive ears, and that are always moving to and fro, wiggling about, going up and down and back and forth, following all the sounds of the world. She says they are extra cute ears!

I’m also playful! I love to play with stuffed animals…my current favorite is a stuffed squeaky sheep that the nice rescue lady gave me on my first day here. I like to carry it around in my mouth, throw it in the air, and play “pounce!” with it. One day I gathered up all the stuffed toys in the house and made a big pile on top of one of the dog beds in the house…I’m told it was quite adorable. I chew the toys up a little bit, but not too badly, and am trying to learn to do so a bit less.

I am left with free roam of the house when my people are out, and I am a perfect gentleman. I am also housebroken, though I warn you that I need to get up at 5-5:30 every morning to pee! Currently my last out of the night is 9:30-10 pm, so if you made that later, maybe I would be able to sleep in a bit more. Since I am housebroken and don’t do anything destructive in the house, you don’t need to crate me, which is good, because I don’t like crates. I whine a bit when you leave, but, at least in a house with 3 other dogs for company, that is the extent of my upset. The rescue folks don't know how I would feel about being left alone in the house if I was the only pet in the home.

I am a bit more mellow than your average 1-2 year old dog, in terms of energy level. I enjoy a couple of 20-30 minute walks a day, and enjoy trotting around in the fenced yard out back, and that’s really all I need to be very content, and to be chill and relaxed the rest of the time.

I do not bark much at all. In the week that I have been here I have barked exactly once…when the garbage truck came by! I am absolutely fine in the car, and was terrific at my veterinary appointment, and in general am very easygoing!

My foster mom says that I probably need some confidence building, that whatever happened in my prior life left me feeling a bit unsure (thus me being a bit of a Velcro dog), so if someone would use positive methods to teach me some fun tricks and some useful skills (like Sit and Wait and Come), this would build my confidence and make me so happy!

Favorite Activities

Cohabitation

There are 3 other dogs (2 males and 1 female) and a cat in my foster home, and I get along well with all of them. The young male dog let me know a few times that he was the boss of the house, and I totally got it, and that’s not a problem for me. We get along great and will play in the yard at times. I don’t seem to initiate play, but I respond if others initiate, once I get to know them a little bit.

I am also great with the cat. With both dogs and cats, I like to see what they are doing, so if one leaves the room, I usually get up and follow them to see what they’re up to. The cat in the house never runs but my foster mom thinks that if I was in a house with a cat that did run, I would probably run after him/her. Not in an aggressive way, just in a following, playful way.

Medical Concerns/Special Needs

Super healthy young guy, no issues!

The only fear I have shown is of cars passing by (while out on leashed walks). When a car approaches, I get down on my belly, and look nervous, until it is gone. This would make it hard for me to live in a more urban/downtown situation, or in a house that was on a major traffic road. I’m hoping for a more quiet adoptive environment.

Summary

I am a super sweet, easygoing, loving, affectionate, and playful dog who will bond very deeply with my people. I would love a home where I will get lots of attention and affection, and where my person or people will help me gain confidence!

If you are interested in me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
