Lottie Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Lottie, and I am a sweet-as-pie, loving, itty-bitty, 9.5 pound, approximately 8 year old, adorable spayed, female Dachshund mix! I am looking for a lap to sleep on and a person (or people!) to love!

Background:

I was rescued from a high kill shelter in Tennessee, where I was found as a stray. We don't know much about my history otherwise, but I was taken into foster care almost immediately because the rescuers could see I needed special attention. My coat was in really bad shape and my teeth were worse -- I had clearly been neglected. But it didn't stop me from loving people with every fiber of my being, so the TN rescuers swooped in and put me into foster care and searched for a great northern rescue group to whom to transfer me so that I could find a wonderful loving home!

Personality:

I am a lover! I am a happy, sweet girl who acts at least a few years younger than my years. I have a very loving energy, and just want to be near my special person. I also like other dogs, but I definitely LOVE people -- men, women, young, old, doesn't seem to matter! I get so SUPER EXCITED when you get home, my foster mom feels like I am throwing her a parade! Then when she settles down, I give her really sweet little kisses and curl up in her lap. When she has people over, I great them with the same eagerness and then "lap surf" before settling down and snuggling up. This sort of zeroing in on laps makes my foster mom think I was someone's beloved pet at some point, because I clearly LOVE people (and their petting).

Aside from loving people...I love blankets!! I LOVE snuggling up with people under a blanket! My foster mom has discovered that I am so super happy when I get on her lap and she puts a light blanket on me. I will snooze quite happily there for hours! When it's night time, I will dive under the covers and snuggle with her all through the night in bed. Sometimes I make these cute little snuffling snores when I sleep, and grumble sweetly and adorably when she has to reposition me. And speaking of cute noises -- I have only barked twice since coming into CDR, and even then, it lasted for only a few seconds.

When I am not snuggling on laps, I like to watch people. I really like to know what they are doing, and let them know I am there for support. So if you are looking for a dog to be your little shadow, I am definitely the one for the job!

Medical:

The vets in TN said my teeth were in poor shape, so they removed all but 4 of them! I'm eating mostly soft food (either wet food, or dry food that is softened with warm water) these days, as I don't have much chomp-chomp left! My coat also was in poor shape, but they ruled out anything medical (no mange, no thyroid issues), so we're assuming it's due to poor prior nutrition and so I'm now having great food and a medicated shampoo and it's already looking much improved! The folks at Cornerstone Vet Clinic said it could be also just “Dachshund baldness,” which apparently is fairly common for my breed, but we are seeing some hair growing back -- so maybe it was stress of being a stray!

Another problem with my teeth being in such bad shape is that it's hard to guess my age. I act like I'm 4-6, but different vet have had wildly different guesses about how old I am (6-10!). What can I say, I'm an enigma! But rest assured, I am a small breed dog so I have many many years ahead of me!

The vet also said it is very hard to tell if I am spayed. I clearly have had puppies, and there's no scar from a procedure, and so we are going to run a special blood test soon to determine if I was spayed yet or not. If not, we will have that taken care of!

If you are interested in me, please read about the adoption process today and live EITHER within 30 minutes of Ithaca OR very close to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Owego. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
