Natalie Has Been Adopted!
Hi! My name is Natalie, and I am a very sweet, very friendly, very all-around lovable, 2 year old, 38 pound (so small!), spayed female Aussie/Beagle mix girl!
I am told that I am gentle, kind, thoughtful and smart! My main concern in life is to be with my people, and to hang with other dogs. I am the kind of dog that lets you know how happy I am to spend time with you and since I love other dogs so much, the rescue folks promise that I will only go to a home where there is at least 1 already there!
I love playing! I love to play ball--especially with a kong-- and I’m really good about bringing it back and dropping it or letting you take it and throw it again. I also love playing tug-of-rope and am delighted if you throw stuffed toys around for me!
I was found stray and ended up in Schuyler County shelter a while ago and was adopted a year ago by a very nice family, where I have been a stellar great dog for the past year! Unfortunately, my mom’s life is very, very busy, and she doesn’t really have very much time for me at all (she is gone a LOT), and we all decided that though she and her son (“my very own boy!”) love me a ton, it’s best for me to find a new home, where I will get the attention and love that I so want and deserve.
I’m great off-leash once I know and trust you! I am not a dog who runs away—I would much rather stick close to you and am excellent at off-leash recall. My main concern is to be with you, which makes me pretty extra awesome in outdoor settings. I’m also very food motivated, so positive training works really well for me. I work hard for treats and I love praise! My former mom wants you to know that I definitely respond best when spoken to in a soft voice.
I’m great with kids!!! The 9 year old boy in my former home and I were best pals. I would follow him and his friends around everywhere. Seriously. I even once climbed a ladder to their tree-house so I could be part of the fun! And even though these kids did a lot of “no-no” things to me (hugging me tightly, laying all over me, running at me fast, bringing me on their trampoline with them), I was always 100% tolerant and kind about it. I actually loved them all a lot, and loved being part of their fun.
I love riding in cars and went everywhere in the car with my former family: to school in the morning and afternoon, grocery shopping and so on. I really love going with them, and would usually put my paws on the console between the two front seats so I could look out the front window. When it was a curvy road, I would lean against the driver's shoulder for stability! When I was tired of watching out the front window I would curl up on the back seat and nap. My former owners learned not to leave meat and other delectables in the car with me while they were out at another store! YUM!!! In my defense though, no one actually told me not to eat the stuff in the packages! How would I know it wasn’t for me?
I love people. I am one of those great dogs who follows you from room to room, and lies down close by you until you move again, and then I come along too. I loved curling up at night on the 9 year old boy’s bed by his feet. My former owners put a blanket down on the sofas for me, because I loved to snuggle up on the sofa so very much. I really appreciated them doing this for me!!
I’m a smart girl! I know “sit” and have recently learned “down”. I still need some work on leash training, but I am very eager to learn, and if you use a Sense-ible or Sense-ation or Easy Walk harness, I will be great to walk!
I’m pretty quiet! I don’t bark unless someone is at the door or a stranger walks into the backyard, which I am told is wonderful of me. I also have what they call a “soft mouth,” which means I am never grabby, I take treats gently, and if you need to get something dangerous out of my mouth for my own safety, I will let you (although if you teach me “drop it” we can do it that way!)! I also have no issues with food guarding…if you stick your hands all in my food while I’m eating, I might think it a little confusing, but I won’t get upset.
I do not like to be in a crate at all, and will cry bitterly and chew on the bars if you make me go in one, so I am really looking for a home situation in which that isn’t needed. I don’t do anything destructive in the house, and am housebroken, though will occasionally have an accident in the house for reasons that my former family couldn’t figure out. Maybe I was sad and lonely? Maybe I forgot to go before they left, even though they had taken me outside? We don’t know, but I’m hoping that my next owners will figure it out! It doesn’t happen often, maybe once every few weeks or so, and sometimes even less.
I have a bit of a sensitive tummy, and did specifically best with the brand of dog food by Blue Buffalo, the Turkey & Potato Recipe with Life Source Bits, Large Breed.
I was living in a house with 5 cats and was incredibly nice with them. I liked curling up to nap with the cats sometimes. I was also around horses at my last home, but have a love of eating horse poop, which gave me major tummy trouble, so I should either not live near horses or be kept far away from where I could get into their poop!
Though I was an only dog in my last home, I want desperately to share a home with antoher dog because I love to play and it makes me feel better when you are gone.
Most of all, I am very much hoping to find a new person or people who aren’t gone all the time, and who want a loving companion. I’d love to go off-leash hiking with you and for walks and to play outside with you in nice weather. I’d love it if you wanted me by your side much of the time, and if you didn’t work away from home for too many hours of the day. I love kids and would love to be around them!
