Scout Has Been Adopted!
Hi! My name is Scout, and I am an incredibly sweet, playful, affectionate, and fun-loving, 2 year old, 50 pound, neutered male Brittany Spaniel mix! I was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Tennessee and hitched a ride on the “doggy underground railroad” (it’s a real thing!) to make it up to wonderful Central NY! I’m in a fabulous foster home with a wonderful foster mom and dad, 3 kids/teens, and 2 sweet cats!
Here are some things that my foster mom wants you to know about me:
- I’m very affectionate!! I love to be petted and will happily let you pet me for as long as you are willing! I do a special thing-- if you are petting me and you stop, I gently nibble your hand or put my paw up over your hand to ask for more! They tell me it’s adorable. I love your attention and enjoy being kissed, petted, and talked to!
- I’m very playful! I really enjoy playing with toys, and stuffed furry, squeaky, or grunting toys are my absolute favorites! I like to run and chase toys that you throw for me, and also like playing tug of war with you! If I lay down and put my paws over my toy, that means “I’d like to play on my own now!” but my foster family says it’s really fun to watch because I roll all over the place with my toy in my paws or roll over it back and forth on my back!
- I’m very good with older kids! I’m in a foster home with kids aged 8-15 and I am terrific with them. I eat up all of their attention and love that they love to play with me and invite me to hang out with them when they are playing their human games.
- I love to run! I want to check out everything when we are outside, and am in a bit of a hurry to do so! I like walks very much, and would also love it if someone wanted to take me for some short jogs. I don’t have a fenced yard in my foster home, but would love one! I pull a decent amount on leash, so my foster parents just got me a Sense-ation harness, which is helping.
- I am very curious and interested in exploring the world! When we are out for leashed walks, I am fascinated by (want to see and smell) everything! My foster family says it’s kind of funny to them because it seems like I’m incredibly interested in the silliest things (rocks, footprints in the snow, grass, bushes, recycling bins), and am also fascinated by every new thing I encounter indoors (books, board games, etc.). Everything is new to me and I want to understand it all!
- So far (knock wood!), I don’t do anything destructive in the house when I’m alone. I like to chew but am NOT doing that to table or chair legs, etc. I prefer to chew on soft and furry things so they make sure to leave plenty of those around for me. So far I have shown some interest in my foster mom’s slippers, soft boots and the toys in the youngest daughter’s Barbie house, but as long as someone offers me one of my toys instead, I take that and am good about leaving the other stuff alone.
- Indoors, I come to you when you call me (this would not be the case outside!), and can “sit” and “shake.” I am also good about dropping something that I’m not supposed to have when asked to do so. I would really love to be up on the furniture and the beds, but am trying to learn that maybe it’s better not to do so!
- I am housebroken! I don’t ask to go out, but since my foster family takes me out frequently, it all works out great.
- I am very good with the cats in the house! They like to brush up against my legs and bump noses with me, and although I don’t really understand this, it’s ok with me!
- I sleep well in one of the bedrooms overnight.
- I have pretty good young dog energy and can play for a long time without tiring! Usually it’s one of the people who gives up first, and then I can settle myself with my toys and play on my own. I never tire of your affection and attention!
- I like to be close to people at all times, so you have to be careful or you might trip over me or back over me with a computer chair!
- I am not a barker. The only time I have barked is when they run the vacuum. I don’t know what that crazy machine is but I can tell it needs to be barked at. They keep telling me that it’s a friendly machine, but I’m not yet convinced…
- I am very good with other dogs! I like to play and love it if they are at the same energy level and have a similar play style as me! If they are too hyper and jumping all over me, I will let them know to back off, and if they tire of playing with me and I don’t realize it, you can tell me to calm it down, and then I will.
- I’m curious about the kitchen and what you’re eating, but am learning to stay off of the counters and if I am lurking too close to the dinner table, if you just calmly tell me “eh-eh”, then I go lay down and don’t bother you for the rest of the meal!
I’m a super fabulous all-around wonderful boy, looking for a forever home that will be filled with fun and love and adventures that we will have together!
