Fritter Has Been Adopted!
Hi everyone! My name is Fritter (yes, like those delicious small battered cakes) and I’m a 14 pound Westie/Chihuahua mix. I was recently neutered and am less than one year old (probably about 9 months). My life has been fairly eventful so far -- I ended up at a high-kill Kentucky shelter with my friend, Fonzie, and was moved out just in time. On my way up North, I contracted coccidia (a nasty parasite that causes diarrhea) as well kennel cough that morphed into such a severe case of pneumonia that it was recommended that I stay right where I was. So, I’m spending my recovery in Syracuse and am lucky enough to be part of the CDR family.
I have soft white and tan fur that is very long on my back and neck, much shorter on my face and feet. The long fur does shed quite a bit, but I would do fine with a haircut for less shedding if I could have a sweater for cold winter days. My triangle ears flop over in super cute way and are as soft as velvet. I have a chunky, stubby tail that wags fast when I get excited – and I always get excited when my people come home. I’m a big kisser and love to lick faces, arms, hands, feet. I’m grateful for the chances I have been given and like to show my affection.
At one point during my illness, my foster family had to feed me through a syringe so I could take my pills. Even though I felt really icky, I never once growled or snapped at them, not even at the nice 6 year old girl who fed me a few times. I tried to squirm and wiggle away, but I was never aggressive or even assertive. My foster Dad thinks that is pretty special since they were strangers to me. He says it is a testament to my gentle nature. Maybe somehow I knew that they were just trying to help.
Now that I feel better, my true personality is starting to emerge. I LOVE playing with my foster brother and sister. They are more rambunctious than I am, so I run along with them and wait for them to tire out. Then I like to steal their bone or toy or bed for myself! I consider myself to be the official greeter when people or dogs come in from outside and am immediately ready to kiss or play.
I am rather curious and like to follow my people around, but I also do just fine on my own. I do most of my business outside and manage to hold my pee for 10 hours a day while my family is gone. When they are home, my favorite place to be is right next to them. I am happiest when I’m cuddled up with my people.
Compared to my foster siblings, I am VERY quiet. The most barking I ever do is out of excitement when my people come home. That’s about it. Definitely not an excessive or even moderate barker. I don’t need to bark much – I get my point across just fine by intently staring at you with my expressive brown eyes.
My foster Dad thinks I am very observant – I study things closely and usually wait to be told what to do. I’m pretty smart and catch on quick to what people are asking. Even though I am a young dog, I am very calm. I’m content to take lots of naps, love to snuggle, and will entertain myself by chewing on a bone or throwing a toy in the air.
Since the weather has been cold and I’ve been sick, it’s hard to say whether I enjoy walks. I do my business quickly and want back in. I probably had a family at some point since I’m accustomed to the way a house works and I get along with kids just fine. I’m not food aggressive and seem to enjoy the company of other dogs.
I’m just a regular dog with above average looks and intelligence searching for a new family to share my life with. I make great company and hope to find the right people who can appreciate my sweet demeanor wrapped up inside a feisty package.
