Dasher Has Been Adopted!
Hellooooo New York! Here I am! I'm Dasher, an utterly adorable, incredibly good-natured, super duper friendly and lively, 15 pound, 2 year old, male rat terrier mix, and I am the sweetest, dog- and human-loving creature you'll ever meet!
On the first night I arrived at my foster parents' house, after many long hours of traveling from Tennessee, you'd think I would be pooped and scared. Nope! Not me! I was the most curious little fella, actively exploring the house, investigating the nooks and small spaces of the home, running about, and meeting the awesome big black Lab named Max who lives here, and my lovely foster sister dog, Juliet! They are both quite a bit bigger than me (65 and 45 pounds) but I love love love them so much, and they love me too! Check out our video--that's our first night together! I am so happy here!
My personality is really awesome! I’m very happy and positive and energetic (but not crazy hyper) and curious and ready for adventure anytime you are! I'm good on a leash and although I've got wee little legs, I can keep up with you on brisk walks! I’m also terrific on stairs, which was a little surprising to my foster parents!
I love to be outside on walks and hikes and such, but I do also love to sleep! I am getting a wonderful amount of exercise in my foster home, since my foster parents are big walkers and hikers and joggers. At night, after a semi-adventurous day, I won't even bat an eye if the front door opens--even when the big dogs hustle over to investigate-- I'll snooze right on through!! My favorite place is on the dog bed with pretty Juliet, curled up right next to her. My other favorite places to curl up are under Max's head (I guess I make a good pillow??) and on your lap! I am a very snuggly dog, and love dog contact and human contact immensely.
So yes! I'm great with people, dogs, and am also great in the car!. So far it doesn't seem like I'm scared or shy of anything. I have a big personality for a little dog! I'm excited to be here, and looking forward to finding my forever home!! Because I take such immense joy and pleasure from being with other dogs, the rescue folks promise that they will find me a home with at least 1 other friendly, playful dog in it!
I am learning to like my crate, though me and my crate were not love at first sight. At this point I will go right in to be fed my meals, and I settle down pretty quickly and sleep in it at night. I'm learning how to sit and wait for my food too! I have a tiny head, but clearly there are lots of smarts in there!
Even though I'm small, I'm not yappy at all when it comes to dogs or people or cars passing by the house. My foster parents appreciate this and think that you will too!
I have also gone to the dog park with my foster sister Juliet, and did quite well, as I'm very dog friendly. Beware though—I like to dig when in fenced areas, and like to “dash” out the door or gate so if you take me there or have a fenced yard at your house, definitely keep a close eye on me as my rascally self might find a way out and that would be disastrous. The folks in the Tennessee shelter from which I was rescued, all think that I ended up stray due to either digging out of a yard or dashing out of a door. More work on “wait” is definitely in order for me!
