Noelle Has Been Adopted!

Hi y’all! My name is Noelle and I am a Cocker Spaniel/Southern belle mix. Although a lady never reveals her true age or weight, I am somewhere between 3 and 4 years old, and weigh around 20 pounds. I have a beautiful, soft caramel colored coat and a skinny, stubby tail that reminds my foster family of a silly wagging finger. I was found wandering with my friend, Dasher, at a Christmas parade in Tennessee wearing a collar, but no tags. I spent a month waiting at the local shelter for my family to come looking for me, but when no one did, I was lucky enough to travel up North in search of my forever home.

It seems that someone, somewhere loved me and spent time with me because I am house broken, have impeccable manners, know some basic commands, and am comfortable with normal household situations. I LOVE to cuddle and am super affectionate. I don’t give many kisses, so consider yourself awesome if I choose to give you one. What I really like to do is lean against you for petting, and inch closer and closer for more. I enjoy having my long ears massaged and getting a nice scratch on my hind quarters. I often snort and snuffle my approval, which I’m told is pretty cute

Sometimes my upper right lip gets a little dry and gets stuck on my tooth, which gives me a very cool, Elvis-like expression. I’m fairly well behaved in the bath and my fur looks like swirled marble when it gets wet. I’m a mellow dog – I like to sit back and observe before charging in, though I will always be at the door if you are coming or going just in case I might be able to escape to do my favorite thing – go for a walk. I’m working on my leash manners because I do pull a little bit and you need to have a good hold on me in case a squirrel or cat dares to cross my path. I go absolutely bananas at those things, though I will keep moving if you ask me to and I work through my agitation quickly.

I like sharing my opinions with you about dogs, cars and people whether we are outside or inside. My foster Dad says I am a moderate barker who barks at what I can see rather than what I can hear (I won’t bark at cat meowing right outside the window, but if I see that cat, IT IS ON!). He also says that I snarl when I bark and it makes me sound really ferocious, which I’m not at all. I’m not actually snarling, it’s just my cocker spaniel muzzle, but it sure gets your attention. He calls it the “wind up before the pitch,” whatever that means!

I’m a happy dog that will greet you at the door with a toy in my mouth, hoping that you will play with me or love on me. I get along very well with my younger, smaller foster brothers and will play and snuggle with them when they are being sweet and tolerate them in a dignified way when they are being pests. Other than cats, I get along with everyone, including children who are kind to me. The only unladylike behavior I have demonstrated is a fondness for dirty tissues. I’ve been known to stick my head in the trash and pull them apart. A girl has to have a hobby! But trash cans with lids would put a quick stop to that.

When I was at the shelter, my left third eyelid popped out and they fixed my cherry eye with no complications. Other than that incident, I’m in great health. I’ve been spayed and managed to avoid the kennel cough that my brothers brought home. I will go to the door to let you know that I have to go potty and I would do best in a home where I could go for walks rather than just be let outside. Having a yard would be great, too. I just want to be able to spend some time exercising and exploring with my people.

I prefer soft foods and treats, which I will take from your hand gently. I don’t beg at the table, but rather, will wait patiently in hopes you will hand me something when you are done. If you forget, I may stare at you intently, but I will not whine or paw at you. I’m far too regal for that!

My foster Dad recognizes that all animals are special and deserve loving forever homes, but he thinks that I have a sweet, sensitive side that would not do well if I were to be shuffled around a lot. He says my soulful eyes reveal a tentatively hopeful spirit that would flourish in the right environment. I think he means that I have already been through a lot and it would be hard for me to bounce back from more abandonment. I would like a family to permanently call my own. Could it be yours?

If you are interested in adopting Noelle, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
