Luna Has Been Adopted!

Hi, my name is Luna, and I am so excited to be here! I am a beautiful, sweet, delightful, and loving, 3-4 year old, 80 pound, spayed female Great Pyrenees! I am one of the sweetest, most loving, huggable, adorable dogs you could ever meet. I love people so much that I live to please you!

I am very eager to learn what you would like me to do, and am smart, learn things quickly (as soon as I know what you expect of me) and love making you smile! I have already learned Sit, Down and Stay and also can give you paw to Shake (pretty good, huh?)! My foster mom says I selectively respond to "No" :) but we are working on it. If she needs me to stop doing something, she can easily distract me by inviting me to do something else. Since I love people so much, I gladly follow you on another adventure! I would be a perfect student in a positive training class and my foster mom thinks I would be excellent at agility too!

Like most Great Pyrenees, I am very mellow and relaxed in the house during the day, but do need decent daily walks and I love running around in a fenced yard. I am learning to walk well on a leash, but it's hard when I see something interesting because I want to go check it out! I am pretty strong so walking me with a Sese-ation or Sense-ible or Easy Walk harness is the best way for me to learn (and works great). If you bring some good treats with you when we walk I know I will learn very quickly.

I arrived in Ithaca by way of Kentucky. I was brought to a high kill shelter with two male Great Pyrenees, by our owner. I don't know why he brought us to the shelter but I am sure glad the great folks at CDR found me. The boys and I were separated so we would have a better chance at getting adopted. Even though I lived with other dogs before and am living in a foster home with 3 other dogs right now, my foster mom thinks I would be just fine as an only dog, as I'm not very interested in playing with the other dogs. I'm really more interested in having my human's attention! I am fine with cats...I pretty much ignore them.

I am getting settled in my foster home, I follow my foster mom around from room to room and love to snuggle up to her. I am a tall girl and I like to check out the kitchen counters for anything I could eat and I have been known to check out anything sitting in the sink too! I am getting the idea that I am not really supposed to do this but I keep forgetting :) I sometimes get a little jealous if my foster mom is paying attention to the other dogs when I think she should be paying attention to me. Since I am younger, it is kind of like a toddler's behavior when they don't want to share. I am learning very quickly that this is not the best way to act and I remember this most of the time. My foster mom tells me she is so impressed that I am such a fast learner!

My foster mom says I do some really cute things, I will snuggle up to her when she is sitting in a chair and put my "arm" around hers so I can give her a hug. Whenever she walks into the room, I jump up to greet her and wag my tail a lot. I love, love, love to ride in the car.

I get a little anxious when my foster mom leaves the house but every time she comes back it helps me to understand that it will be all right. She is working with me on crate training, so I can go in there and feel safe when she is gone. So far I love to go in and sleep in there with the door open, so we both think I will soon be able to stay in there with the door closed. Like most young dogs, I can find things with which to entertain myself if you're gone for long periods, so you may prefer that I stay in a puppy-proofed area or in a crate until I mature just a teensy bit more.

I am housebroken. I always go outside and do my business then run around the yard a few times and am ready to come back in to see my foster mom. I am not that fond of the cold but I do like to snowplow in the snow. On a sunny day I like to spend a little more time outside. We Great Pyrenees are known to wander so I would need to have a securely fenced yard (5 feet or higher) or to be kept on leash at all times. I truly am a sweetheart looking for my forever home. I am so excited to start the adventure with you, so please find me soon!

If you are interested in adopting Luna, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
