Pepper Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Pepper, and I am an insanely adorable, sweet, affectionate, and loving, 3 year old, 20 pound (so small!) spayed, female Dachshund/Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier mix! [Truthfully, we don’t know my true breed mix, but this is the best guess of folks who have met me and seen my pictures.]

I am a super happy (I wag my whole body, not just my tail!), friendly, adorable love muffin. My foster parents say that I am a first-class cuddler which was evident from the moment I entered their house (after my long transport from KY) and immediately crawled up my foster dad’s legs and gave him about 50 kisses! I really enjoy affection and snuggling and enjoy it most of all while sitting on the couch with you! I am very, very sweet, am gentle and loving, and am one of those dogs that seems to adjust easily to new situations. They say that I am also smart (yay!), am eager to learn, and am learning basic commands quite well.

I have good energy, and love exercise, but am not hyper like some little dogs. I do really love running around the large fenced yard, and I zip around faster than the Australian Shepherd that is here, which is saying something, because Aussies are fast! Tee-hee…I like the look on his face when he can’t catch me! I’m great with other dogs by the way, I have excellent dog-dog social skills and am also good with the cat in the home—curious, but not aggressive in the least.

Though running in the fenced yard is my favorite, I also very much enjoy going for walks and hikes, but need a Sense-ation or Sense-ible harness, as I pull, since there is so much exciting stuff to see and smell! I would not be ok off-leash, as the dachshund and beagle parts of me make me want to “go-go-go!” following the scent of any critter around. But that’s ok, leashed walks are fine, plus I get to be with you!

I am fine in a crate, and am currently sleeping in one, though I would be overjoyed to sleep in bed with you if you were game for that. I love snuggling up in a blanket and I hear it’s pretty cute to see me do that! I have very short hair, and now that the temps are dropping, my foster parents got me an adorable fleece jacket, which helps me stay comfy and cozy outside. I love being taken care of!

If you think you'd like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
