Jackson Has Been Adopted!
Hi! My name is Jackson (or Jax, for short!) and I am an incredibly sweet, easy-going, and playful 1-1/2 year old, neutered male Collie/Great Pyrenees! I was saved in the nick of time from a high-kill shelter in KY and am enjoying life in my Ithaca CDR foster home with a terrific foster mom!
My foster mom wants me to tell you that I am super sweet and lovable. I love to cuddle and am very gentle with people. If you sit with me, I'll put my paw or head in your lap and look at you with my big brown eyes, which seems to have a very lovely melting effect on my people. If you rub my ears and my head, I will often close my eyes and just lay there exuding total contentment. I can be quite relaxed and mellow, but make no mistake, I still have plenty o’ puppy in me, and I also love to play!
I love to toss my toys up in the air and then pounce on them with a big smile on my face. My foster mom just laughs and says it’s my special Jax game. I enjoy going for walks quite a lot, and spend the time sniffing the earth, watching everything that is going on around me, and listening for birds and squirrels and chipmunks. I walk pretty well on leash, especially for a young guy who has had no training, but I will pull a bit if I see a squirrel running across the ground or up a tree. I also like to sit at the back window and watch the deer in the woods behind the house. I never bark at them from inside--I just watch and think great thoughts about them.
I try to communicate very clearly with my people. If I would like to be petted, I will go over and stare at you and if you don’t get it, I will gently paw at your arm or shoulder, as if to say, “can you use this arm to pet me please?” If I want to play, I might give you a big pouncy “play bow” or a gentle “hip check” (where I walk by and bump my butt into your hip playfully, which means, “want to play chase?”) If I finish all the water in my water bowl, I will push it over to you with my paw or nose and stare at it or at you until you refill it! How’s that for a smart dog?
I am a really great boy. I am incredible with people and love other dogs, though I had one altercation with a male dog soon after I arrived. Everyone guesses it is because I was not yet neutered and the other male had just been neutered, so he still had plenty of testosterone in his system. You know how that goes. I had been fine with neutered males previously, so the rescue folks aren’t very concerned. And I love female dogs! We haven’t cat tested me yet, so could do that upon request.
I’m a rock star of a dog. When I went to Cornell for my exam and neutering, everyone loved me and couldn’t stop saying what a good and handsome boy I am. If you think you'd like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.
