Romeo Has Been Adopted!

Hi everyone! My name is Romeo, I am an incredibly sweet, good-natured, extremely loving, affectionate, and easygoing, 6 year old, 75 pound, neutered, male Collie/Great Pyrenees mix! I arrived in Ithaca with 2 of my brothers (Charlie and Rory, also on the website!) a few weeks ago and am loving the beginning of my new life!

My brothers and I lived outdoors in a shed in KY for my entire life until my owner had to move to a nursing home. Her family did not want anything to do with us, and had scheduled to have us all euthanized, even though we are all lovely, healthy, loving dogs. So sad! Luckily a kind rescue lady in Kentucky found out about us and came and picked us up! We are all in different foster homes, learning how wonderful it is to live indoors and to be cared for properly. We are each hoping to find our own individual forever homes and have a great new life!

I really love affection and I love to be near you. I will follow you from room to room---not in a clingy or anxious way, just in a “hey, I’d rather be near you!” kind of way. I also love being petted! Oh, yes! Chest scratches and neck scratches and belly rubs are the best! If you sit on the floor with me and pet me, when you stop, I will very gently paw at you to ask you to keep going! I do it so gently and my eyes are so full of love and hope, I am very hard to resist. It’s incredibly endearing I am told.

I am great with other dogs and fine with cats. I do some silly and adorable things like, I like to get a good body scratch by rubbing the side of my body up against the couch and the wall as I walk by…sort of like a cat does! It feels so good and is cute to see! I also was recently introduced to what a stuffed squeaky toy is, and think they are hilarious! If you squeak the toy at me, I will get happy-excited and howl back at it in response, and then gently take the toy from you and go lay down and “protect my squeaky baby.” It’s very sweet how I am so gentle with my “babies” and like them to be near me. The only other time I seem to howl is in response to ambulence and other sirens. I seem to think that they are “singing” to me and that I’m supposed to “sing” back!

I am totally housebroken and sweet as anything. I enjoy going for walks very much, and get all happy-excited when we see other people or dogs out walking too. I just want to say hello to everyone because I am such a friendly boy! I walk very nicely wearing a plain walking harness because I really don’t like how it feels if something tugs on my neck.

One thing that I really do love though is to be brushed. Oh, it’s so wonderful feeling to be brushed and I never had it my whole life until now! This is actually a great thing for me to love, because I have a lot of fur and it’s long so it’s needs pretty regular brushing to stay beautiful.

I am so happy to be in a great foster home and getting such great care, and am so looking forward to finding a special person or people to be with forever. I will make someone an amazing companion! Please come find me soon. I want to get my new life started with you….even if your name is not Juliet.

If you think you'd like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
