Brian Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Brian, and I am a ridiculously adorable, incredibly good-natured and sweet, 8 year old, 40 pound, male Basset Hound/Yellow Lab mix boy!

I moved to Ithaca all the way up from Kentucky. I was in a shelter there that had very few adoptions and things weren’t looking too good for me. I was so lovable though that the nice people there made sure to get me to a different shelter that would be sure to find a home for me! Boy, all the shelter workers and volunteers just fell in love with me! I have the sweetest, most soulful eyes, they just make everyone melt. Everyone is glad that I got to come up here and get my chance to have a real forever home for the rest of my life.

I am so loving and calm and love the simple life! I love to be at your side on the couch and to put my head in your lap and snore. I also love to lie around in my dog bed and take naps and relax. I like walks and I like to hang out with other dogs (and cats!), but my favorite thing to do is to lie on my back and get belly rubs. As soon as I see that someone wants to give me attention, I quickly flip over on my back and wait for the belly rubbing goodness - that is just plain the absolute best thing in the world! If I don’t get that belly rub right away, I will do this adorable thing where I look at you upside down and wiggle my arms around. You have to see it to believe how cute it is! You won’t be able to resist giving me the belly rub! I am also super cute when I get a treat – I make little snorting noises and my foster mom calls me her Little Piggy! Oink Oink!

I am so trusting that sometimes I will fall asleep within minutes of lying down with my foster parents. Well, after I give them kisses goodnight of course! I am incredibly good on walks and I never pull on the leash. My foster parents just gush over my perfect “heel”! I could literally be walked on a leash 2 feet long, because all I want to do is walk right next to you. I’m not very adventurous out there on the walks, and I just like being with people and calmly enjoying the scenery!

When I first got to Ithaca, I really hated being left all alone. It was really scary not knowing why the nice people were gone and I would panic and turn into a little rascal. I am doing a whole lot better now though! I’m actually perfect when my dog friend Sally is hanging out with me, and I hope that whoever adopts me has a great dog friend who can keep me company. If there are no people and no dog friends to hang out with, I still get lonely and might do things like dump out laundry baskets! Also when I first got up to Ithaca, I would dig in the yard (and even under the fence!) if I got anxious. I don’t do that anymore, but my new people should keep a very watchful eye.

I have very good manners and I am fully house trained. I had a few pee accidents when I first got to Ithaca but I just didn’t know the routines of my foster parents. I haven’t had an accident a long time now though!

I love other dogs and I find them really comforting. I think I need to find a forever home with another dog so that I can always have a friend around with me! I love my senior dog friend here at my foster family’s house, and I just met Josie, another dog from Cayuga Dog Rescue, and even though she is young and has lots of energy, we got along great!

I just went to the vet and they said that everything looks just fine. I got a full blood panel done too since I’m a touch older, but I’m in perfect health, yay! I get a little carsick sometimes, so please don’t feed me right before we go out for an adventure!

I'm a super wonderful all-around boy and can't wait to find my forever home! If you think you'd like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
