Daisy Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Daisy, and I am an incredibly adorable, super social, very playful and loving, 1-2 year old, 33-pound Basset Hound/Dachshund mix girl! I am looking for a fabulous, social, active and fun adoptive home and would especially love it if there was another playful dog in it! I am exceptionally easygoing and happy-go-lucky and my foster parents say that I seem to roll with everything in a most amazing way!

They also want you to know that I am a social butterfly. I love, love, love to follow you around, be near you, give you kisses, get your attention, and give and get affection! I also love love love to play with other dogs! I am living with 3 other dogs and some cats, and this is absolute paradise for me. One of the other dogs is Tucker (another CDR dog…go check out his bio!) and he and I are best friends (see our video!) and play constantly. When I have gone to the dog park, I was “the life of the dog party” because I just haven’t met a dog that I don’t want to play with. I especially like playing chase and tug-of-war!

My foster mom says that I do not have a mean or aggressive bone in my body—I love to play with cats and dogs, and people… and if I accidentally stumble upon a grumpy old dog in my playing and they bark at me, I sweetly lay down and apologize and give them a kiss! I also never get mad if a cat claw gets stuck in my lip while we are playing! I am sweet as can be.

I'm not a hyper dog, but I am young and have good energy and need a decent amount of stimulation and play every day. As long as I get this, I settle well indoors, can entertain myself with toys, by playing with the other pets, and by just chilling out! I can even be a couch potato once in a while! In these warm months, I enjoy basking in the sunshine on the (fenced in) deck and soaking in the beautiful landscape! Since I am a hound dog, I must be kept on leash at all times unless I am in a securely fenced yard. We are bred to follow our noses to the ends of the earth.

I am told that I am very entertaining to watch! I really love toys--especially stuffed animals and things that squeak, and I get all “pouncy” if they are thrown for me (or even if I just find them on the floor!). I sometimes even pounce in the air while I am running, which I like to do in big circles with a toy in my mouth. My foster parents say this is beyond adorable. I am a very smart and curious girl, and I like exploring the world with my nose. I also love chewing, and have a marvelous stash of nylabones and marrow bones and chew-proof toys. I am learning very well what is a “dog toy” and what is not, but am not quite 100% perfect yet.

I am a real snuggle bug and I deeply love all people. I lived for a few months with a 3-year-old child and I was sweet to him and enjoyed playing with him too, so I might do well in a home with children as long as the kids knew how to be gentle with dogs.

I am already housetrained and know some commands (I am smart!) and though I completely know to do my business outside, I really don’t love it when the grass is wet, and so won’t necessarily “ask” to go out on those days. Truth be told, I would prefer an indoor option when it’s rainy! I’ll go, mind you, but you have to think to take me out, I’m not going to remind you! I’m also crate trained and am fine in my crate for a period of time.

Everyone I have met in Ithaca has become totally smitten with me and my foster mom thinks I will make the perfect dog for a fun, active, playful person or family. If you think you'd like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
