Rufus Has Been Adopted!
Hello! My name is Rufus, and I’m an exceedingly smart, very handsome, incredibly sweet, 2 year-old, 54 pound, neutered male Australian Shepherd mix!! I came to stay with my great CDR foster family when my owners had to move and couldn’t take me with them. I was sad to lose my family, but am loving my foster family and am very excited to find my forever home!
I’m very affectionate and very curious, which I’m told is the hallmark of a sweet and smart boy! I like to follow you from room to room, checking out everything you are doing, trying to make sense of it all with my big, fuzzy head. I even like to see what you’re up to when you’re in the shower, which kind of cracks up my foster parents! I really love people and love getting attention. I am eager to learn anything you’d like to teach me.
My foster mom and dad have two cats who love to play with my tail and with whom I have great boundaries. Sometimes I try to play with them (nicely!) and sometimes they even try to play back which is super fun! There is also a cool 4 year-old Lab in the house with whom I play sometimes. He has an awful lot of toys, and has been very generous about sharing them with me. What a good boy he is too, and wow, I love playing with toys. My foster mom has this exercise “medicine ball” thing that rolls unevenly, and that can keep me happily occupied for quite some time!
My foster parents say I have good manners, because I know how to sit and lay down and I am very gentle when they give me treats. I am learning the finer points of home life, like staying off the furniture and not jumping up to say hello, and am getting things pretty quickly and am very responsive.
I love going for walks and being outside if you are there, but I don’t like to be left outside by myself. I’m mostly a “people person,” so really just want to be where you are. When my foster family is at work, I am quiet and happy inside my crate, but when the family is home, they leave the crate door open for me so I can hang out in there if I feel a need for my own personal safe space.
I’m a great boy who has had a tough go of it recently, but who is very resilient and wonderful. If you think you’re interested in a smart, good-looking sweetie-pie guy like me who’s over the whole “puppy training” game, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.
