Ginny Has Been Adopted!

Hi! Hi! Hi! My name is Ginny and I really want to be your friend! I am a very sweet, three-legged, 33 pound, 1-2 year-old female mixed breed dog (maybe some lab? maybe some shepherd? something small in there for sure!).

I came from a shelter down south---I was found stray after having been hit by a car and my leg was all mangled and extremely painful. The vets determined that it would be healthier for me to lose the leg, so they took it right off for me. I am much happier now with my three good legs and I have no trouble keeping up with my three other dogs in my foster home. I'm also great with the cute cat in the house---I am respectfully friendly.

I was a little timid when I first arrived, but after a couple days with nice dogs, chew toys, warm beds and lots of affection I have adjusted quite beautifully. I LOVE to cuddle after a good play session with my foster sister and I am perfecting the art of sleeping in adorable positions though I am told I tend to snore more than the average pooch.

I don't remember ever living in a house, so I had to learn how to ask to go outside to pee. I can sleep through the night but I have to go out right away in the morning otherwise I might have an accident by the door. My foster parents are home a lot so I don't need to go in a crate very often. At first I didn't like it very much but after about a week I learned that it is not so bad to relax next to the other dogs and I can wait to go to the bathroom until my parents come home.

I am very attentive and responsive to what you are saying, though I don't really understand words like sit or down yet. But you won't have trouble getting my attention and I bet I could learn lots of tricks very quickly if you don't mind teaching me. Sometimes I bark a little if the other dogs are barking or if I am upset that you are leaving me and, I occasionally pick up a shoe or other things that look like toys. If you tell me what is ok to chew I will happily focus on that.

I'm pretty average when it comes to energy level. I'm young so I like to play and go for walks, but I don't need to run 5 miles a day to be happy and quiet inside. Right now my three working legs are doing great, but I will need to stay slim and fit and maybe take joint supplements when I am older to keep them all happy.

The thing that most people love about me right away is my happy sweet nature and my affectionate disposition. I can't wait to have a family of my own that can love me and cuddle me as much as I want to love and cuddle them! I know I can grow up to be a super good girl with the right guidance and I think we would have lots of fun in the process. If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
