Penelope Has Been Adopted!

Oh, well hey there! You came to see me! Oh my gosh that just make my tail wiggle waggle! Well, my name is Penelope, but you can call me Penny, Penny Fluffy Shorts, Pen-Pen or Penny Pants. I just love all the nicknames my foster mama has given me. It makes me feel so loved, which is all I live for… that and leash walks in nature, those are pretty awesome too. You’re probably wondering what my story is, huh? Okay, I’ll tell ya! I’m between 2-3 years old and am a foxy 75lb female Great Pyrenees Mix. My foster mom brags to everyone she meets that I’m just the sweetest, most docile, loving dog you’ll ever meet. She can’t imagine how anyone would let me end up in a shelter, but I have a good feeling I have a much better life ahead of me. I love to be loved and will sit near wherever you are, and sometimes if I’m wanting a little attention, I’ll offer my paw very gently to remind you I’m available for petting. It’s rather endearing, so how could you resist? I can be a little shy at first, but warm up pretty quickly once I see you have some love to share.

My foster mom and I have been working on commands, and I’m so proud to say that I’m now housebroken, and I know “Sit”, “Wait” and am now working on “Down” and “Come”. I also know what it means when my mom tells me “Inside”, “Outside” and “Car Ride”. OHMYGOODNESS I love going for car rides!! I just launch my fluffy tush right in the car and am ready to travel! Sticking my head out the window is my favorite thing in the whole wide world. I also really enjoy going for hikes and sniffing all the wondrous scents the world has to offer I do this happy little trot whenever I get to go on walks, I just love it so! I get along with dogs and cats well as I’m living with both right now, but humans are really my favorite. I might have had some trauma when I was younger because loud noises or big movements will really startle me! But after a few seconds of a little coaxing and snuggles, I get over it and go back to being my cheery loving self. I’d love a home that’s relatively calm and it would be so great if my forever human could take me to work, work from home or even be retired. The more time you have to spend around me, the happier I am but I’m also fine to snooze at home – just don’t go away for too long, I’ll miss you!!

I’m a really laid back, quiet kind of gal, unless I hear another dog barking and then I might chime in (even though I might not know what we’re barking for), but it’s usually only for a few woofs just to feel useful. Otherwise I lounge around alternating between my dog bed and coming to say hi to my human. Us Pyrenees tend to wander a little bit, so my foster mom will sometimes put me on a secured lead line outside so I just get to snooze in the shade and watch the world go by – it’s so relaxing! But if I had a fenced in yard, that would be the best! I am healthy, up-to-date on all my vaccinations and am even microchipped!

Come meet me and I promise you’ll fall in love with my smiling face and fluffy happy self. I sure can’t wait to meet you! If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
