Lucy Has Been Adopted!

Hi everyone! My name is Lucy (“The Adorable!”), and I am a super sweet, easygoing, friendly, happy-go-lucky, 31 pound, spayed, female Basset Hound/Beagle mix!

I’m probably about 8 years old, and definitely still a Spring Chicken! I have lots of sweet, wonderful, happy energy, and I love to play with you, get your attention and affection, learn new things, play with my foster sister dog, go for walks, and investigate the amazing smells all around me!

I am a gentle girl, and am usually calm with people, other dogs, & even cats! I’m a “no-drama” kind of girl, so even if another animal doesn’t love me right away, I am fine to just leave them alone until they come around (which they will because I’m great!). Right now I am living with one other dog and wow, does she have a lot of “rules!” Being the good girl that I am, I just do what she says and thus we get along super well and she seems to really like having me around, as do I her. The cats here are really great too. They mostly leave me alone, and that’s ok because I prefer to leave them alone too. There’s one cat that runs from me, which does make it tempting to chase him, but once I catch up to him, I’m very gentle and just like to smell. I am part Beagle, so I love to smell everything again and again!

I’m a smart girl, my foster parents keep telling me. I can sit, stay, lie down, and come! How about that! My foster dad really wants me to learn to walk better on a leash, because I get excited and like to pull. I just got an Easy-Walk harness which slows me down some, but I will try to learn to heel better because I know my foster parents want me to and I’m definitely a people-pleaser. It’s not just because they give me treats for learning, but that makes it extra nice.

I’m totally housebroken and will do my business right away most of the time when I go outside. But I love a nice long walk, as I do like to keep track of all the smells in the neighborhood, and love the companionship of being by your side.

I’m a pretty serious eater – meaning I like to eat a lot, and I like to eat fast!! My foster mom makes me eat out of this ridiculous bowl that stops me from gulping my food down fast. She says it’s good for me to not eat so fast...I say “haroomph!” I try to use my adorable face and eyes to get my foster parents to give me lots of treats, but they can tell I’m the sort of dog who could get overweight really easily, so they are being careful. Haroomph again! The good news for you (bad for me!) is that I’m pretty short and can’t reach your counters. Careful though – I am quite clever! If there’s a way to get to food, I will probably find it.

I am loving my foster home, but I know it can’t be forever. Please think about letting me join your family – I came all the way from Kentucky so that I could get a 2nd chance. I don’t really know why my original family took me to the shelter (on Christmas Eve no less), except that they said that they didn’t have enough time for me. It was very sad for me, but it’s okay now because the rescue folks say they promise to find me a home for life where I will be loved, cared for, given loads of belly rubs, good food, and fun walks to smell the roses!

If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
