Gibson Has Been Adopted!
Hi everyone! My name is Gibson. I am a 1 year-old, extremely sweet and friendly, affectionate, loving, easygoing, drop- dead gorgeous (so my foster mom tells me), 80 lb, male, neutered Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix!
My foster mom says she has never seen a coat like mine, it is so thick you could bury yourself in it, and the coloring is different shades of gold and blond with grey underneath. I love to let her pet me as much as she wants :). She also tells me I have the most beautiful, soulful eyes that will just make your heart melt. This is a good thing for me to know' cause if I do something I shouldn't, I will just look at her and it will be alright!
I love, love, love people and other dogs. I love your attention, being petted, being talked to, and being near you. There are 3 other dogs and a cat in my foster home (1 large dog and 2 smaller ones) and I have made fast friends with them all. The dogs are really fun to play with but if they aren't in the mood to play, I just hang out and rest quietly. I don't really care too much about cats, I sort of ignore them. I like to go for walks and behave nicely on a leash.
My foster mom is working on training me because clearly no one took the time to do so before. I really will be excited to go to a positive training class with you when I am adopted--I am very smart and want to learn all that I can. The treats are awesome and it makes me feel confident to be able to know what you want and to do it! I have already figured out how to go up and down the stairs and my foster mom is working on teaching me my name and to do basic things like "sit" and 'wait." I am tall, and love to check out the kitchen counters for food because I might find something really good, but i'm starting to get an idea that maybe I'm not supposed to do this. I go outside to do my business most of the time but of course have an accident from time to time as I am learning all the new routines and such.
My foster mom says I am a great house cleaning assistant, as I dust the tables and shelves with my big fluffy tail!! She also says that I have a little separation anxiety--when she is home I am a velcro dog and follow her from room to room, and when she leaves the house I get kind of upset. I run from window to window trying to keep her in sight and can accidentally knock things over in my worry. For now, I am staying in a crate when she is gone (and at night by her bed) and though I bark for a little bit, I am able to then settle down. She thinks I will be fine once I have a chance to learn that when my people leave, they always come back home.
My ideal home would have a friendly, loving doggy playmate and also a fenced yard for frolicking. 6 foot high would be best because my foster mom saw me standing up and checking to see if I could go over her 6 foot fence! I also thought about digging out, so I would need to be supervised outside for a while because I sure don't want to get lost again.
If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.
