Ellie Has Been Adopted!
Hello everyone! My name is Ellie. I am a very sweet, affectionate, adorable, laid back, 6 year-old female, spayed Collie mix. I am medium size and weigh in at 40 lbs.
I am having a great time since I arrived here at Cayuga Dog Rescue. Right now I'm living with my foster parents, a Black Lab, and a rabbit. I'm told there is a cat that lives upstairs, but in my foster home my foster brother and I don't go upstairs so I have never met her. I really get along quite nicely with my canine companion and the rabbit doesn't interest me much. My foster parents never have the bunny out when I am because I like to run after squirrels and a bunny kind of looks like a fat squirrel with big ears!! I have also had the chance to meet a bunch of other dogs at the dog park and would love to go back and play again. Since I'm still getting settled into my new life, I'm taking it a little easy right now. I do love to go on walks through the woods. My nose is usually to the ground as there are just so many interesting smells. I walk nicely on a leash except when I spot a squirrel, then all bets are off. Squirrels are sooo irresistible, aren't they?!! I like nothing more than a nice belly rub when we get back, matter of fact I like a belly rub anytime that I can get one!
I don't know how I ended up as a stray because I really love people and getting attention. I will just sit and look into my foster mom's eyes. She says I am the best girl ever and have the sweetest demeanor. I like to sit at her feet and follow her around to see when I can get my next belly rub. I love to give kisses and love everyone I meet, I greet them with my happy tail, that I wag almost all the time and that makes my happy butt wiggle too! :)
I'm completely housebroken and behave myself when left out in the house with my foster brother. I will go in a crate but don't like to because I would just rather lounge on a nice comfy dog bed or the sofa, if I can. I am not what one would call a chow hound. I like to take my time when eating, and to maintain my girlish figure, I don't over-indulge.
I am just starting obedience training; learning sit, stay, come. I understand the stay and come part, but why is it necessary to sit first? I'm sure I'll get it someday, I just need some more positive training and I love working with my foster dad.
While I would love to stay at my foster home forever, I understand that it's just a temporary home while I wait for my forever home. I would love to find a new home with a fenced yard and maybe a playmate and lots of belly rubs. If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.
