Clara Has Been Adopted!

Hi everyone! My name is Clara, and I am the sweetest, most wonderful and loving, 3-4 year old, spayed, female, Great Pyrenees mix! I am quiet, unassuming, lovely, curious, and soulful. I don’t have a mean bone in my body, and am just delighted by every nice, kind thing that happens to me!

I was adopted to a terrifica family last winter, but turns out one of the family members became extremely allergic to me so they couldn’t keep me. It made me very sad to leave them but I got to come back to the foster home I stayed at before and got to see my foster mom and the three great dogs and the cat that live there. I had especially missed my best buddy her male Great Pyrenees, so being with him is easing my sadness at losing my family.

When I was originally rescued, I had been found wandering stray in Kentucky (almost to Tennessee), and I was in sad shape. I was skin and bones, matted, filthy, covered in tar and in something else that was very stinky. They had to shave off all of my beautiful creamy white fur, but they promised that it would grow back and it has mostly grown back but needs to fill in a little more before it is the lush, soft, luxurious coat that we Great Pyrenees all have. I have gained most of the weight that the docs said I should (but would love to gain more so I still like to counter surf when given the opportunity!).

When I first meet strangers or am in a new place or new situation I am a bit timid and shy (just get quiet and hang back) but once I am sure everything checks out, I am super sweet, affectionate, and very, very friendly. I seem to love all nice people, dogs and cats once I get to know them a little bit. One of my favorite things to do is to rest my head on my foster mom's chest and gaze into her eyes. Sometimes I close my eyes and even snore a little bit ‘cause I think I have gone to heaven! I will give you my paw when I want your attention (it’s so cute, how could you resist?) and will dance/stomp my feet if I think I should have something that you apparently forgot or are a little too slow to give me! My foster mom tells me all the time that I am just an absolute sweetheart!

Other than counter surfing and pulling a bit on leash, my manners are fantastic. When you come into a room I will stand to greet you. I don’t bark much, and have a very gentle, loving presence in the house. My foster home has a great fenced yard (important for us Great Pyrenees, as we are known to be “wanderers”), and I like to go out and run around with the other dogs very much. I am fine being left free in the house when my foster mom is not here, I don’t get into trouble, I just hang with the other dogs and wait for her to come home!

I am an all-around wonderful girl! My dream home would have one or more very sweet, kind, loving people in it and I would love to be able to play with kids and other well mannered dogs. We would have to all meet to make sure it would be a good match for all of us but that is what I really hope for. I would love a fenced in yard and folks who want to take me on nice walks every day. I am not the kind of dog who could be trained to stay on your property without a fence or a leash. I love my foster mom and her dogs and cat and they love me but we all really hope I find my real forever home this time.

If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca , Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
