Chickpea Has Been Adopted!

Hi! My name is Chickpea, and I am an adorable, silky, sweet and delightful, 3 year-old, 12 pound, female Pomeranian mix! I have a huge heart and a very lively personality! My foster mommy calls me Hummus and Falafel though my favorite nickname is Garbanzo!

I am super intelligent, and am a really fast learner. I love to cuddle, and especially like having my belly rubbed. I will jump so high when you come home, and love to jump into laps for petting. I’m a serious lap dog and absolutely live for human attention and companionship! I am very loving with people and will make you laugh and laugh, though am a bit of a diva and love to be the center of attention. I am reluctantly working on being less princessy, but it’s hard!

I am okay on my own for small chunks of time, but ideally I want a home where folks aren’t gone all day long, and where I can be as vocal as I want (when I need to be walked or need food or water, I am very communicative. My foster mommy likes that because I have never had an accident in her apartment!). I don’t bark very much inside unless I need something, but am quite barky at stuff outside. My foster mom is working on this with me and we are making some progress for sure.

I’m quite confident and dominant with other dogs. I would probably love it best if I was an only dog, but as long as I’m in a home with another dog who doesn’t mind me being the boss or one who could put me in my place, it might work out fine. I walk well on leash, but need more work on not being bossy toward dogs that I see and pass by. I haven’t been around cats yet, so that would have to be tested.

Please let me be your new cuddle buddy! If you think you might like to adopt me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca, Syracuse, Binghamton, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can't do home visits where we don't have local volunteers.

Because of the high rate of accidents between dogs and young children, we rarely adopt out our dogs or puppies into homes with young children.  If you think your particular situation might warrant an exception, please feel free to inquire with us.
